God bless the day I found you
I want to stay around you
And so I beg you
Let it be me
Don't take this heaven from one
If you must cling to someone
Now and forever
Let it be me
Each time we meet love,
I find complete love
Without your sweet love
Tell me, what would life be?
So never leave me lonely
Tell me you love me only
And that you'll always
Let it be me

I always liked the Everly Brothers 1960s version of this song, and hoped that one day Elvis might record it. He did a really good live version but what a pity there wasn't a studio take to put out as a single.
It´s a nice song. Very nice. Elvis did a great job, as he almost always did when it came to ballads. I´ve never understood why he didn´t sing it more often on stage. Everybody know that Elvis in the seventies sang a lot of ballads. He sang them a lot. That makes it even more strange.
Though the Everly Brothers version is very sweet, Elvis seems to put more depth in the song. It would have been nice indeed if he had explored this song in the studio as it would have produced a very touching version!
No one can compare to the brilliant harmonies of Don and Phil, but Elvis did a good job on this track.
One of my favorites from the Feb 1970 On Stage LP. He does it in a completely different style then the Everlys. Both have their own unique signature stamp on the song. Both are great.
Believable Greatness. TCB
Fantastic version of a beautiful song! I prefer the verion on Legendary Performer vol 3 (or was it 4?), just because he gets even more operatic in one part of it. Elvis was just a brilliant gifted genius of a vocalist. He had a voice that could just take you to the heights or bring you to the depths, and this song has both. He captures the thrill of finding the "one" and the despair of possibly losing her. What can you say? Elvis is the man, the king, the best.
Yes indeed a great song and a cracking version, could have been a single.
A powerful live version of a song that had been a hit for several artists (Jill Corey in '57, The Everly's in '60, Betty Everett and Jerry Butler in '64 (the biggest hit, peaking at #5), The Sweet Inspirations in "67 and Glen Campbell and Bobbie Gentry in '69). While Elvis' version is my favorite, this track would not rate as one of his best in my opinion. I find it odd that many people who attack him for recording middle of the road material like "The Last Farewell" and "What Now My Love", seem to like this one so much. It is very good, but not even one of the top five tracks on the "On Stage" album.
A great pop/rock standard (not even close to MOR) that Elvis takes and puts his personal stamp on. The Everly's have the signature version but Elvis makes it a different song by his powerhouse vocal.
Elvis takes a really good song and elevates it to the status of great! He makes this song his own. It is a creative version where he and the Imperials sound awesome. This would have been a really good single release.
Good enough for the On Stage Lp. Fitted in well with the late 69 live shows and a good preformance from Elvis, but not a classic recording for me. Nowhere as good as Minds, Wonder, Daddy, Rain, the big Elvis pop sounds around at the time. That said On Stage is a Cd I still love to listen too.
I've always loved this song, and Elvis' version is just beautiful!
ELVIS should have sung this song in his later years ,too. It perfectly matches his voice and would have even sounded better later on with his even more powerful voice ...
The best version of this song belong to Elvis. everly bros version is okay but Elvis performance is way better no contest.
I didn't know he sang Let it Be.. Paul McCartney must have been proud!..
Always been a favourite of mine, this track. It's a shame Elvis did not get to record this in the studio, a slower version at the same pace of the Everly Brothers inerpretation would have been gorgeous by Elvis.
The Everly Brothers great version was the one I knew for years, but Elvis certainly puts his own stamp on the proceedings. He had the innate ability to make so many songs seem personal and a thoroughly pleasant musical journey. This is one of his best live performances so 5 stars.
Although it's not a great song, it's a great song to sing along too.
Glorious version of the Everly Brother's classic. I felt it should have been a single release, I actually like it better than the live cut of "The Wonder Of You' which was a live cut single from the same time frame and became a huge international hit. RCA dropped the ball again.
3-stars. This song, for a better term, has been bludgeoned to death by Elvis in his live performances. I consider it average but overly sung live by him.
It's funny that Elvis first line is: "God bless the day I found you". Everybody else (except the version of The Sweet Inspirations) starts with '"I bless the day i found you". I wonder if he deliberately wanted to start with "God bless"; influenced by and working with the Sweet Inpirations. Great song by the way and I love Elvis' version.
I like this song, great performance
Elvis did a good a lot of covers, this is one of the best!
One of Elvis' best recordings from 1970
A beautiful song which he sang most, if not all the Feb 1970 Vegas performances. Yet he never sang it live again to my knowledge. This would have been amazing to hear him sing 76-77 instead of Mountain and If you love, which had grown tired. Anyway, pointless dreams. The song is a belter and a highlight of the season.
