I just can't help believin'
When she smiles up soft and gentle
With a trace of misty morning
And the promise of tomorrow in her eyes
I just can't help believin'
When she's lying close beside me
And my heart beats with the rhythm of her sighs
This time the girl is gonna stay
This time the girl is gonna stay
For more than just a day
Oh, I just can't help believin'
When she slips her hand in my hand
And it feels so small and helpless
As my fingers fold around it like a glove
I just can't help believin'
When she's whispering her magic
And her tears are shining honey sweet with love
This time the girl is gonna stay
This time the girl is gonna stay
For more than just a day
For more than just a day

I love this song, one of my all time favourite Elvis tracks.
Perfect Elvis song. Really like to hear this song. Too bad he didn't sing this more often after 1970.
From all the needless worrying about forgetting the words Elvis returns a perfect rendition to this beautiful song, surely one of the best live performances he did. Released as a single and reaching No. 6 in the UK it deserved to be No.1 worldwide! I still cannot comprehend its omission in the Special Edition of TTWII. Since the rehearsal of this song was omitted as well I presume it was a copyright problem. Shame.
This is my favourite song of all time. As EJF says this made #6 in the UK. At the time a lot of BBC djs would not play Elvis songs, most of his airplay came from Radio Luxembourg, a station which was very good to the King. I bought the single at the time and I didn't even have a record player.
An outstanding performance by Elvis, proving he mastered all kind of styles. One of those songs of which the imprint of the hearing and the seeing intices the mind way after the actual experience. Overwhelming, as were most of the 1970 songs.
Such a pretty love song. I love both Elvis and B.J Thomas versions...
Not a single in the USA and probably should have been instead of Ive Lost You. This had much more hit potential.
One of my all time favourites! I remember taping it from the radio back in the 70s... of course I turned my recorder off too soon :-)
One of my favorite songs. I think it should've been a single back in '70. I'm surprised this song wasn't performed more in the '70's.
A big hit single here in the UK and one that gets frequent radio plays still. Did Elvis ever better this performance? And what a great song.
Overrated. I've never cared for it.
One of Elvis' best! He could pretty much do no wrong from 1968 to 1971. He really never looked or sounded better than in That's The Way It Is!
Elvis really rides this song in a magnificent way and what a great arrangement. I never cared too much for Vegas Elvis but this one is first class. Like the movie posters used to say : Elvis at his best.
Awesome!!Did very well here in Europe and i still here it on the radio sometimes.
A wonderful live track from an absolutely fantastic album ("That's The Way It Is" - 1970). BJ Thomas did a first rate job with his release of this song, but Elvis blows him out of the water with his delivery and the perfect backing he gets from the Sweet Inspirations, Imperials and the band. Still not the best track on the LP, but on this album, Elvis could do no wrong. I give it 4 and 1/2 stars, as I keep the five star ranking for my top 50 or so Elvis songs.
Love it ! Great song, Great performance.
such a great song and such a nice arrangement. Perfect performance (even with the minor textproblem)
An all time favourite, never get tired of hearing this by Elvis, nobody else will do! Stacks of play in the 1970s when it became a major hit in the UK and still gets played from time to time on Radio 2.
I thought the song was ok when I first heard it but, as with many of the best songs it grew on me over the years. Like Suspicious Minds and Burning Love (and now also ALLC) this is one of those songs that seems to be enjoyed by even the most cynical of Elvis bashers, at least in my experience.
This was to be the single to return Elvis to #1 in the Uk charts, but for some unknown reason it stuck at #6. Having enjoyed 5 top ten hits in a row I'm Leavin failed to get into the top 20. The previous time that happened was with Kentucky Rain, peaking at #21 but the followup, Wonder of You hit the #1 spot, staying there for 6 weeks. I was gobsmacked when 'Leavin' failed to reach the top 10 but on hearing 'Believin' & seeing the Tv video I assumed a repeat was on the cards only to see the song in question stick at #6. But at least Elvis was hitting the Uk top 10 once again and a further 4 in a row gave Elvis good Uk success. I still enjoy listening to 'Believin'. Played it today.
Great performance of an adult song which never really touched me. In fact I think that TTWII was a low between too milestone albums in Rock history and Elvis catalog “From Elvis in Memphis” and Elvis Country. Let's put it this way: it's a great song like dozens of others in Presley catalog, but far from my dozens of favorites.
Absolutely beautiful from Elvis in one of his peak years, the magnificent 1970. It was a big hit in Holland, peaking at #4. It is a mystery to me why this song was not released in the US on single.
Elvis at the absolute top of his game in all aspects, a delivery smooth as silk on a song that should have been released globally as a single, and not selected regions like the UK.
According to Ernst Jorgensen book The Complete Recording Sessions, there were no overdubbes on this song, which makes it more astonishing when you listen to all the musical sounds going on in the background. Great arrangment.
5 stars for this song. One of my favorite
Great song. Only released versions were recorded live; too bad he didn't do a studio recording of this tune.
Awesome!!, my favourite song. 10 stars
I always wondered why RCA released this song that had a clear mistake with Charlie Hodge getting the lyrics wrong. Then when I heard all the other official recordings I could see why. It’s a still a timeless classic and wish he sang it after Aug 70 on a regular basis and not just a Dec 76 style impromptu (which was still beautiful). Not enough stars to rate this properly.
It was a big hit in the Uk, but with better publicity it could, should have been a #1 hit, 5 star recording from me...
