Gently

Rating:
4.0 / 5

Words & Music: Murray Wisell Edward Lisbona

Gently your eyes met mine
Tender, trusting, true
Gently your hand took mine
Thrilled me through and through

Gently, oh so gently
Gentle as the dawn
Gently, oh so gently
Our true love was born

Gently your lips kissed mine
As we strolled along
Gently your heart touched mine
Young and warm and strong

Gently the hour is near
When true loves have to part
Gently we'll meet again
One more kiss, sweetheart

A pleasing ballad.

Good recording, simply and nice, A full album of these would be nice, just sit back and relax. Rock numbers can wait.

The worst song on the LP "Something For Everybody" is still a pleasant well sung ballad. This one and "It's A Sin" are both a little too "gentle", but they are still worthy of 3 and 3 1/2 stars respectively.

Nice simple ballad to close out the ballad side of the record. But not my personal cup of tea.

This is such a beautiful and soothing ballad and Elvis' rendition of it is brilliant. I rate this song and Elvis' rendition of it 5 Stars.

A ballad with a folk influence delicately and wistfully performed by Elvis Never ever skip this track and I think it is greatly underrated.

How can one not like this. Lie on your bed or in the grass with your loved one listening to this song. Sounds perfect, right?

A nice ballad sung by Elvis with great, well what can I say gentleness. The song will hardly blow you away and you will probably forget it minutes after you hear it, but enjoyable enough to give a play now and again.

4 star recording for Elvis. Never skip this one. Full album of this type would have been good. Still, we got half an album.

A nice, gentle ballad with folk leanings that's well sung. One of my faves on the "Something For Everybody" LP. 4 stars.

Clearly upon his return from the U.S.Army, Elvis was making song choices that took him away from rock and roll and transforming him into a pop crooner. ‘Gently’ is a good example. Nothing wrong with the song itself but it seems a long way from the peak of the 50’s.

My favourite track from Something for everybody. Beautiful melody, guitar work and of course vocal. His voice was like velvet in the early 60’s.

Not my cuppa tea, personally. Don't get me wrong, I love most of Elvis Presley's ballads, as all of us fans of his should, but this and "It's a Sin" from the same LP (Something for Everybody) are a little too soft for my taste. 2.5/5 stars for both, four stars for the album.
