Words & Music:
Jimmie Rodgers
If time were not a moving thing
And I could make it stay
This hour of love we share
Would always be
There'd be no coming day
To shine a morning light
And make us realize our night is over
When you walk away from me
There is no place to put my hand
Except to shade my eyes against the sun
That rises over the land
I watch you walk away
Somehow I have to let you go
Cause it's over
If you knew just how I really feel
You might return and yet
There are so many times
That people have to love and then forget
Oh there might have been a way somehow
I have to force myself to say
It's over
So I turn my back,
Turn my collar to the wind
Move along in silence
Trying not to think at all
I set my feet before me
Walk the silent street before me
Now it's over
If time were not a moving thing
And I could make you stay
This hour of love we share
Would always be
There'd be no coming day
To shine a morning light
And make us realize our night is over
It's over

This is such a very spectacular song and I'm so very glad that Elvis sang it at the "Aloha From Hawaii" concert. It's such a very underrated and overlooked song.
Not the Roy Orbison song but a nice ballad with a gradual build and a grandstand finale. He was at the top of his game with ballads at the Aloha concert where his apparent intention was to show the world he could sing.
one of the highlights of the Aloha special. A beautiful, touching song
To me, this was one of the best moments of the Aloha concert, in fact it still is! A wonderful performance by Elvis. There was a period in my life I just couldn't get this song out of my head! I recall the day Elvis died and our daily news channel showed It's Over from the Aloha show! That vision still remain in my head as a very touching moment!
Elvis gives new life to a Jimmie Rodgers (of "Honeycomb" fame) penned song and minor hit (#37 in 1966). It is one of the many "Aloha" highlights, but I have always wondered why his voice is so faint on the first verse of the original LP release. Later re-mastered versions have corrected the problem, just wonder why RCA didn't fix it originally? Oh well, I am knit-picking. Elvis' version is beautiful, full of emotion, performed with style and worthy of at least 4.5 stars.
This has always been one my favourite performances by our man. He really sang his heart out on this one, possibly effected by his personal circumstances at the time. I love the song and the performance from Aloha. His earlier versions from February 1972 are also great, but strangely remained unreleased for many years. 5 stars
Elvis does a fine job on this Jimmie Rodgers tune. Definitely one of the highlights from "Aloha." 4 stars.
Its a good song and Elvis does a fine job, but Aloha should have been to the time to sing more of his back catalog and show the world what got him there
