When you're through swimming
I'll dry your back
Come and relax girl
In my little beach shack
dum-di-dum-di-dum, yeah-yeah-yeah
There'll be nothing you'll lack
It's a pleasure to welcome you
In my little beach shack
In my beach shack, baby we'll be alone
In my beach shack, I'll make you feel at home
Take off that wet cap
Let down your hair
Come to my beach shack
You'll be comfortable there
dum-di-dum-di-dum, yeah-yeah-yeah
Be my guest, have a snack
See how nice I feed company
In my little beach shack
In my beach shack, baby we'll be alone
In my beach shack, I'll make you feel at home
Come see my etchings
I wish you would
Don't be afraid girl
My intentions are good
You believe me now..
dum-di-dum-di-dum, yeah-yeah-yeah
I know girls by the pack
There's no-one I want there but you
In my little beach shack
In my beach shack, baby we'll be alone
In my beach shack, I'll make you feel at home
In my little beach shack....

Probably in those days this song was considered light erotic material..
You can't help but get caught up in Elvis' enthusiasm and the song itself is a feel-good romp.
Much better and much more fun than some of the movie tunes. The movie is not that bad either, I enjoy watching it.
The outtakes are a pure fun delight to hear...Elvis's laugh is contageous !!! 5 stars :p
As movie songs go, I guess it's not too bad, but by far it's the weakest song from the Spinout soundtrack which was pretty good. If this was on the awful Clambake, it would have been the standout track! Who cares about outtakes on a song like this?
I remember sort of enjoying the Spinout LP until I got to this track. Then I thought oh no here we go again, another typical dopey movie song. Totally silly and beneath what the King should have been recording in 1966. Just look at the lyrics. Scene from the movie? Was it really necessary? Yikes!
Actually, the out takes are the best part! Listening to Elvis make fun of this song puts the whole song & movie in proper perspective!
I guess the euphemism for the dopey movie songs used by the blind loyalists on this sight these days is it'a a "fun song". Make me want to cry when I see what they do to his legacy.
dum-di-dum-di-dum, yeah-yeah-yeah...this is the absolute winner of the worst songline contest
according to an earlier post this week, to write this piece it took a napkin and about five minutes instead of the aforementioned ten for that other song that was up. My suggestion for to tomorrow: what about putting Dominique as song for the day ;-) Sleep well...
I'll let the historians worry about the "Legacy." All I know is that I enjoy the song. It's a fun song. It fits the scene. It's part of a very enjoyable soundtrack and movie. Beyond that I don't care.
The outakes, of this song are definately a fun listen. If you haven't heard em'. You must get the "Spinout Soundtrack" with the outakes of "Beach Shack" and others. Dare I say it, This song "remixed and overdubbed" might be a fun treat !
By far the worst track on the "Spinout" soundtrack LP. This one is silly and even in the movie it is not that enjoyable (the worst part of the movie). Not as bad as the worst soundtrack songs ("Barefoot Ballad", "Yoga Is As Yoga Does", "Carny Town", etc), but close. As far as hurting his legacy, that is just plain bull. Is Sinatra judged by "High Hopes" or his version of "Old MacDonald"? Are the Beatles classics affected by "I Am The Walrus", "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Rocky Raccoon"? Should we judge Dean Martin by him singing "Brush Up Your Shakesphere" too many times on his TV show or singing the horrible title tune to "Five Card Stud"? If someone allows "Beach Shack" or any other silly movie song to effect how they view performances like "Don't Be Cruel", "Such A Night", "Just Pretend", "Promised Land", "My Boy", "Long Black Limousine" etc, then they are just being dumb.
This is one of the few songs I enjoy from the Spinout soundtrack (I also enjoy the title track). The lyrics to Beach Shack might be a bit simple..the dum-di-dum part also made Elvis crack up when he recorded this. I have the Spinout outtakes and it's fun listening to Elvis recording this song. But I don't understand why he recorded this song as he refers to this song as "silly hour.." during the outtakes. Was this the movie that Colonel Parker more or less threatened Elvis to do, showing up at Graceland with RCA officials??
Fantastic - it should have been performed by Ned Flanders, though, and not the King of rock'n roll ;-)
The film and the soundtrack of California Holiday as it was known in the UK, has a few memories for me. Mainly the bonus songs I'll Remember You and Down in the Alley. The only song in the film that had any appeal was All that I Am, which is still one of my favourite Elvis songs. Beach Shack is best described as the kind of stuff we were to expect in an Elvis movie, nothing complicated or memorable.
Quite enjoy this song and the instrumental backing. Moves along at a good pace and keeps me interested. Would have been even better with different words as the basic tune and performance had excellent potential.
On the outtakes Elvis sings:"what you say I am" then the Jordinaires sing "dumb dumb dumb". Elvis laughes his head off. I think it's funny too, but not this song. Come see my etchings? Did he have Rembrandts in his beach shack?
Not as bad as some movie material, but best forgot tune from "Spinout". The only positive thing I can say is that while Elvis sung it in the film he was surrounded by a bunch of cute girls in bikinis. You could always count on Elvis films for nice scenery human and otherwise.
Always liked this tune ,songs around this time were a little silly with refrain no meaning.I think Elvis did find it stupid as some outtakes shows
I've always liked this fun Elvis movie song even though I have absolutely no idea what Elvis said immediately following the line "See how nice I treat company in my little beach shack". It appears that there's nowhere on the internet that reveals what Elvis actually said during that part of the song. "Spinout" has always been one of my 10 most favorite Elvis movies. "Spinout" was the second of three movies that Elvis co-starred with Shelley Fabares.
I love the Spin Out / California Holiday movie and LP. To me, Beach Shack is by far the weakest cut - perhaps trying to ride the wave of the Beach Boys / Jan & Dean.
Certainly not the worst movie song he ever did, but it's just the point that someone the stature of Elvis should be taking his time with this is a crime. Elvis doses what he can with it but its very, very limited.
A fu××ing waste of time for both, elvis and the listener. 1 star.
Dopey song for a dopey scene. Totally uncalled for and embarrassing. 5 yrs on from Blue Hawaii and we were still getting ridiculous movie songs. Should have been deleted.
Not a very memorable song to be blunt. 1-star.
The only blemish on the otherwise excellent Spinout soundtrack. 2/5 stars
Poor song from an otherwise very good soundtrack that filled out an equally very good flick. 1 star.
