Words & Music:
Waylon Jennings

Long ago and far away
In my old common labor shoes
I turned the world all which-a-way
Just because you asked me to
Likened to no other feel'
Summer love is simple true
There's no end to what I'd do
Just because you asked me to
Let the world call me a fool
Let it; things are right with me and you
That's all that matters and I'll do
Anything you ask me to
Knowin' how much I love you
After all I've been through
I'd turn and walk away from you
Just because you asked me to
Let the world call me a fool
Let it; things are right with me and you
That's all that matters and I'll do
Anything you ask me to

What a great little song. Elvis was in good voice and clearly enjoyed putting this together. Underated and underplayed?
Promised Land is a gem of an album. Elvis really gets into this Waylon Jennings number and does it proud.
Nice, uptempo country number with Elvis in excellent voice. A solid track that closes an excellent Side 2 of the LP "Promised Land". All five tracks on side 2 of this LP are four star tracks or better.
Never understood the stupid sounding female backing vocals on the original track, so i much prefer the great pomping Guitar Man album overdub! That one really rocks :-)
Nice song, nothing outstanding. Would have been better without the female backing.
Yes Promised Land is a fine album and this track is one of the gems. I find any excuse to include this song on my playlists which has Elvis in fine voice on a medium tempo country number.
Great track by two country legends, done very well by Elvis. The version on Guitar Man is excellent too, as is Jennings original.
I've always liked this song immensely and Elvis' rendition of it was excellent. I've never skipped it. Five stars from me.
Actually a real gem. Despite, his often stated love of country music, I never thought of Elvis as a country singer but a Rock/Pop singer who sometimes sung a country song, but this performance showed me that had he wanted to he could have done it just as well if not better than Waylon, Willie, Merle, Conway or any of the other country headliners of that day or anyother time for that matter.
I love this song. Can someone tell me why Elvis? changed the title from "You ask me to" (original from Waylon Jennings) into "You asked me to"? Or was it a mistake?

2nd verse...
Likened to no other feel
Simple love is simple true
. . . .
3rd & 5th verses...
Let the world call me a fool
But if things are right with me and you
Not one of my favorites. It's acceptable and catchy in a sense but it just doesn't "ring my chimes".
