There Is No God but God

Rating:

Words & Music: Bill Kenny

There is no God, but God,
I know this is true
God made everything,
He made me, He made you
There'd be no birds,
No planes to sail in the blue
Without his wondrous eyes
To see them through

They say God made land
And He gave it all to man
Yes I know He's mighty good and true
There is no God, but God
And He knows everything to do
So just you call on Him
And He will share His love with you

There is no God, but God
I know this is true
For God made everything,
He made me, He made you

There'd be no birds,
No planes to sail in the blue
Without his wondrous eyes
To see them through

They say God made land
And He gave it all to man
This I know is mighty, good and true
There is no God, but God

And He knows everything to do
So just you call on Him
And He will share His love with you

Quote from Ernst Jorgensen:"TINGBGod", originally recorded by Bill Kenny of the Ink Spots, provided a much-needed challenge. Yet for all of that Elvis's version sounded like a throwaway; it is an example of the kind of pedestrian arrangment that some of his musicians considered the main problem with the Elvis sessions of these years." I agree, but still like the song, although it lacks real emotion.

A medium paced gospel number that Elvis absolutely nails. I prefer the uptempo gospel numbers over the deeply religious soul searching tracks, purely from a listening experience, while acknowledging that some of the latter tracks are the greatest in his career.

I've always liked the song. Ernst's opinion not withstanding,

A pleasant song, one that Elvis obviously liked a lot. Not one of my favorites from the album, I prefer "He Touched Me" and "I've Got Confidence". It also suffers a bit compared to his earlier gospel recordings from the inferior recording quality (mixing etc.). Still an enjoyable song.

I've always liked this gospel song immensely and Elvis' rendition of it was splendid. Elvis always sang gospel songs with sincerity and passion. 5 Stars.

The phrasing is staccato rather than a flowing melody. While There is no God But God`` is not in my list of top 50 Elvis recordings, I very much appreciate that Elvis stepped to record something different. His two best albums. ``Elvis is Back` and `From Elvis in Memphis`` highlight his ability to tackle different types of music.

Below average gospel number and easiest one of the lesser songs on the "He Touched Me" LP. The LP was a good contemporary Christian album and a real departure from HHIM and HGTA, but this one, "He Is My Everything" and "An Evening Prayer" are the bottom three songs on the LP IMO. They aren't bad, just no where near as good as "I've Got Confidence", "He Touched Me", "Reach Out To Jesus", "Bosom Of Abraham", "I John" and my very favorite "Lead Me, Guide Me". "A Thing Called Love" would have been more at home on "Elvis Now" (Put Your Hand In The Hand should have been on HTM), but is an interesting track, "Seeing Is Believing" is solid and "Amazing Grace" while not the best version of the song, is again, solid.
