It was a night oo-oo what a night
It was it really was such a night
The moon was bright oh how so bright
It was it really was such a night
The night was alight with stars above
Oo-oo when she kissed me
I had to fall in love
Oh it was a kiss oo-oo what a kiss
It was it really was such a kiss
Oh how she could kiss oh what a kiss
It was it really was such a kiss
Just the thought of her lips
Sets me afire
I reminisce and I’m filled with desire
But I’d gave my heart to her in sweet surrender
How well I remember, I’ll always remember
Oh, what a night oo-oo what a night
It was it really was such a night
Came the dawn and my heart and her love
And the night was gone
But I’ll never forget the kiss
The kiss in the moonlight
Oo-oo such a kiss, such a night
It was a night oo-oo what a night
It was it really was such a night
Came the dawn and my heart and her love
And the night was gone
But I’ll never forget the kiss
The kiss in the moonlight
How well I remember, I’ll always remember
That night oo-oo what a night
It was it really was such a night
When we kissed I had to fall in love
But I’d gave my heart to her in sweet surrender
How well I remember, I’ll always remember
Oh that night oo-oo what a night
It was it really was such a night
When we kissed I had to fall in love
Well she's gone, gone, gone
Yes she's gone, gone, gone
Came the dawn, dawn, dawn
And my love was gone
But before that dawn
Yes before that dawn and before that dawn
Oo-oo, oo-oo, oo-oo, oo-oo, oo-oo
Such a night

From the first time I heard it on A Legendary Performer one of my favourites, especially that version!
This is not so much of an extraordinay melody but Elvis's raw and inspired vocal performance makes it definitely priceless !
Such a Night was one of my favourite singles from the 60s and had the very underrated Never Ending as it's B side for it's 1964 UK single release. Such a Night was once considered to be a very raunchy song and Johnnie Ray's 1954 version was actually banned by the BBC. Though Ray's version was pale in comparison to Elvis' steamy version.
The one Elvis song that is the earliest in my memory. It hit me then and still does. One of those real top classics. Talkin about suggestive! In those years unmistakenly confronting for the elderly generation. Don't miss this one!
Elvis Is Back was the first LP I ever owned in 1960. When I first heard this song, I thought it was one of the best records ever made by anyone. I still do. The single release in 1964 came 4 years too late.
If I were to spur of the moment name my top10 songs then I'd say most, if not all, would be 70s. However, when I'm listening to the earlier stuff, where Elvis throws his voice all over the place, as in this one, my list changes again! Great song. Great voice. Only Elvis. TCB
This was the first 45rpm record I ever bought with my own money (I was 11 when it was released in the US as a single). I think I aggravated everyone who knew me with the record at the time. It's an amazing performance! It puts Johnny Ray's version to shame. Johnny's version may have been suggestive, but it was tame compared to Elvis' version! A complete knockout of a song. Imagine it taking RCA 4 years to release it as a single!
This song still makes me quiver - after all these years!
As songs go I don't consider it a great composition. But Elvis' performance lifts it to great heights.
This is my favourite of all Elvis's songs because is like a pill for headache, it makes me feel so good!
Can we give a song 6 stars? This one is awesome! Elvis salts the sex with humor (I borrowed that line from another review I read somewhere, but it is so true) and sings the hell out of it. Everything is perfect, Elvis' performance, the band, the Jordinaires and the song. This song was so strong that four years later when it was released as a single (the movie "Roustabout" did not having any songs strong enough for commercial release) it hit #16 right in the middle of the British invasion. Maybe a bit too suggestive and rocking for the soft early 60's, but this song would have been a smash in 1957 or 1958.
It's always been hard for me to really rank individual Elvis songs. I know there's a big big group I call favorites. But I do know that in the number 1 and number 2 spots are If I Can Dream and Such A Night. Those swap places sometimes, but that's them. Such A Night is almost swing (it sounds so different at the Hawaii Benefit show). Just a killer song and vocal; the Jordanaires are fantastic on this--not too loud or distracting. A truly perfect 3 minutes!
This is music (not rock, not pop, country, hip hop, etc., just music) in its perfection. This is The KING untouchable and unbeatable. This track is from one of the greatest Albums of music history. This is my Elvis.
Bought the single when it came out in 1964 and never got tired of it to this day, that goes for Never Ending too. I also like the Johnnie Ray version.
One of the best Elvis songs ever: its pure perfection!
Quite possibly the best thing he's ever done. Perfect in every way. I think R&B was Elvis' strongest gendre.
Here's Elvis just out of the army and ready to conquer the world again. An amazing cover of an original by one of his favorite singers: Clyde McPhatter (with the Drifters).
Great song from a great LP,this ranks along Mess Of Blues / Trying To Get to You / Feel So Bad ect.
Great recording, on a great album, by the greatest pop star in history. If off to listen to the album and remember the great times Elvis has given to us fans, endless..........
This is such a magnificent, catchy and fun song and Elvis easily has the very best rendition of it. It's my 2nd most favorite track from the "Elvis Is Back" album.
Not the best song that he chose to perform but certainly one of the best performances that he did in his whole career.
A kind of tongue in cheek delivery, playfully suggestive and a masterpiece from start to finish. - 5 stars from me.
This is the song that I put down as my favorite song under my profile (a shame we are only allowed to pick one), it´s impossible to sit still to, so be carefull if you put the CDplayer on repeat.
One of the best songs from probably his second best album ever!
After the wild drum-ending someone says Whoa. Whoa indeed! The Jordanaires sound in place too.
No one, I mean, no one is as sexy and talented as The King and this song is one of the many reasons that is true.
Oh, it's such a great performance by Elvis! One of my all time favs by Elvis. When you compare this one to Johnnie Ray's one realize what a great performer was and remained all the way through. I never tire of listening to Such A Night!
A full Five star performance if there ever was one. My favorite Elvis song, and his greatest overall performance on record. Surrender was his best "technical" vocal. Few singers could tackle that. But Such a Night encompasses all the energy and talent that is Elvis at his best.
5-Stars and only because of Elvis' treatment aka singing style in particular which makes this song. The lyrics were nothing to write home about but boy, did he put this "puppy" over on the "Elvis Is Back!" album; his first full length album from being back out of the Army in 1960. Great album with better songs, but this tune is great!
Catchy tune, brilliantly recorded by bill porter, executed perfectly by elvis and the musicians. Great tune from one of his best lps. 5 stars, what else?
