Words & Music:
Arranged by Elvis Presley
When the storms of life are raging
Stand by me
When the storms of life are raging
Stand by me
When the world is tossing me
Like a ship out on the sea
Thou who rulest when wanted
Stand by me
When I’m growing old and feeble
Stand by me
When I’m growing old and feeble
Stand by me
When I do the best I can
And my friends misunderstand
Thou who never lost a battle
Stand by me
Thou who never lost a battle
Stand by me

There are Elvis songs that really inspire and help you in not so good times. This is one of them. Beautiful.
oustanding song. Indeed a song to support you in darker days.
I love this song. Wonderful vocals and in my mind as good as the title track of that album
It was almost forgotten that Elvis could make outstanding albums given the right songs and concept after so many disappointed releases. This is just one of the superb tracks from an album that is still widely praised over forty years down the line.
An outstanding gem from Elvis' 5 star sacred LP "How Great Thou Art"(1967). A stark, lovely track with Elvis lilting beautifully over the uplifting lyrics. Concerning the lyrics, I believe the 2nd to last line of verse one should read "Thou who rulest wind and water", not "Thou who rulest when wanted".
The best song on the album in my opinion. It didnt suffer from the over-production that was on many of the rest of the songs. Simple is always better to me.
A beautiful uplifting gospel. The piano player could be either Floyd Cramer or Henry Slaughter.
This wonderful 5 star song deeply touches me with its sincere delivery.
One of Elvis' best recordings of his life! ~ The correct lyrics are . . .
When the storms of life are raging stand by me
When the storms of life are raging stand by me
When the world is tossing me like a ship out on the sea
Thou who rulest WIND AND WATER stand by me
This is such a beautiful and underrated song and Elvis sang it tenderly, perfectly and sincerely. Elvis' rendition of this gem should definitely be far better known than it actually is. "How Great Thou Art" has always been my favorite Elvis gospel album.
Always loved this song; wish they would have done a more sparse take on the song "In The Garden" much as "Stand By Me". Out of Elvis' religious albums, this was my least favorite. It had it's moments but compared to His Hand In Mine, this one is over blown as to the additional arrangements.
Great vocal. Gives me chills. 5 star song and LP.
This and Run On are my favorites on the album. I like his first gospel album a lot better. Better , crisper production and he was in better voice. During 1965-67 Elvis developed a thicker , heavier singing voice which worked well on this song, but on a song like So High and others, it doesnt work for me.
my favourite gospel of our man
This and Where no one stands alone are the highlights of an outstanding album. Song 5 stars and album 5 stars
