One night of sin, yeah
Is what I'm now paying for
The things I did and I saw
Would make the earth stand still
Don't call my name
It makes me feel so ashamed
I lost my sweet helping hand
I got myself to blame
Always lived, very quiet life
Ain't never did no wrong
But now I know that very quiet life
Has caused me nothing but harm
One night of sin, yeah
Is what I'm now paying for
The things I did and I saw
Would make the earth stand still
Always lived, very quiet life
Ain't never did no wrong
But now I know that very quiet life
Has caused me nothing but harm
One night of sin, yeah
Is what I'm now paying for
The things I did and I saw
Would make the earth stand still

I prefer the rawness of this version above the originally released One Night, which was already superb.
This is Elvis The Pelvis the most disturbing social, cultural and and sexual force of the 20th century. This is Elvis one of the greatest Blues singer of all time. This is the true King!
I can still remember hearing, on my vinyl album "Elvis", for the 1st and ea n every time, Elvis doing One Night in the '68 Comeback special when he mixed in some of the lyrics from the original version here, and thinkin' it sounded really cool but wonderin what made him "change" the lyrics...haha, little did I know as a kid, and not until Legendary Performer vol.4 came out that One Night Of Sin WAS the original and the lyrics were too racey for the 50's and were toned down to what we now know as One Night. Sorry, just reminiscing. But LOVE both, definitely on my favorites list.
I prefer the single version. This usually gets the skip button from me.
Both versions are OK by me.
The original single version was so good that it would be very difficult to better. I still like and play this take though so it's good to have both recordings to enjoy.
Elvis sings this incredibly racy version of the song as only he can sing it, but I prefer the single release with the tamer lyrics. Can you imagine what America would have done if RCA had released this version in 1958??? Elvis would have probably never come home from the Army.
I love this - pure blues as only the young Elvis can sing it. The control in his voice is amazing. I still like the original 45 better, but I never skip this one. Sounds more like a run through than an actual master take. Maybe used as a studio warm-up? You can tell Elvis is on guitar also. The 50's Elvis was the best. Did this guy really warble Song Of The Shrimp a few years later?
One Night was tremendous, but I actually think this one is better. But the decision to go for the tamer lyrics were completely right. Í think it´s different now in 2010. I believe that if it had been recorded now, you would not have to consider such things. Time changes, but this one will always be a great Elvis Presley performance
Like them both equal, they are 5 stars songs. And by the way the best Elvis is The 50´, 60´, and 70´, Elvis !!
I like this song and his performance. But Overall it was far from a favorite of mine. If I had to choose between this song, or "Santa Claus is back in town" (another raw bluesy rockin' tune) I'd pick "Santa Claus is back in town" Anyone agree with me on this one? (he says hopeful)
First of all----it's great! I like the harder rocking edge of the "cleaned up" version, but I like the lyrics of this version better. (I'm from New Orleans, so we all knew the original version by Smiley Lewis before Elvis recorded the clean version)
I love "One Night Of Sin" and "One Night" equally and they are both 5 star songs. I've never pressed the skip button whenever these songs have been playing.
Although it is rough around the edges when compared with One Night this does not detract from the overall impact of a terrfiic performance. Raw and gritty with the Elvis rasping vocal qualifies this for 5 stars.
The single was probably one of the greatest songs of the 1950s. Although this isn't quite up to that standard it's a great alternative to add to the collection.
I like this version alot, but I prefer the single with Elvis's guitar upfront. The "sanitized" lyrics on the single don't bother me - the inflection in Elvis voice more than makes up fot it. But this is also an excellant version which was a great treat when finally released back in the late 80's. ,
Great alternate version. I like One Night just a bit better but this song is still raw and real. Plus the lyrics are more risqué.
