Tonight I’m alone without you my dear
It seems that there's a longing for you still
Oh but I just keep it there so I won't be alone
In our little cabin on the hill
Oh someone has taken you from me
And left me here all alone
To listen to the rain beat on our window pane
In our little cabin on the hill

Elvis did a good version of this old blue grass number.
One of the many "classic songs" on the "Elvis Country" album. Easily one of his best albums of the 70s. I wish RCA would remaster this CD, and re-release it for the general public.
A nice number, always feels good hearing it !
It is because of these Elvis versions of country songs that I started to appreciate that style of singing. His rendition of this old song gave a completely new dimension to the term classic to me. Love to hear it!
Great song from (in my opinion) Elvis' last great LP.
Great loose track. This sounds like Elvis really having fun with a song he'd probably known all the words to since he was a child. As a fairly big-mouthed "hater" of country music, the Elvis Country album is a big favorite of mine and gets played often. The version of country that Elvis did totally transcends the genre, I guess because everything he did was so infused with soul and blues and his own personality. This is a great, infectious song! Impossible not to sing along with it, especially alone in the car!
Good recording from a great album. Elvis always did c/w proud.
Love this catchy lil tune. Elvis obviously did too cuz he even kicked in to a short clip of it on The Million Dollar Quartet cd released about 3 yrs ago, his voice was a tiny bit higher but it sounded just as great as the 70's version...LOVE it!
i hate the regular country-music. Elvis singing country is totall different, and i like this album very much.
One of the better tracks from a patchy album.
Very overrated track and easily one of the lesser tracks on a great album. It isn't bad and it does show Elvis having fun and it has it's merits, but Elvis is just basically goofing off and there is no way it compares "I Really Don't Want To Know", "There Goes My Everything", "Tomorrow Never Comes", "Make The World Go Away", "It's Your Baby, You Rock It", "Funny How Time Slips Away" and the rest of one of his best albums. A 3 star song on a 5 star (anything but patchy) album.
Elvis kicks it off with his acoustic like he did with That's allright. I'm a big nut about this kind off songs. Just love bluegrass, but Elvis gives it something extra.
Yes a great album and this blue grass number maintained the overall quality. Different from nearly all tracks in his career bar 'A Hundred Years From Now'. I just love the whole atmosphere of the song and the joyous energy emitted by Elvis and the gang - 4 stars from me
This is such a terrific and fun country song and Elvis' rendition of it was spectacular. I've never skipped it. I love all of the tracks from the "Elvis Country" album immensely.
An outstanding rendition from Our Man of this blue grass classic!! Masterfully delivered in a humble homage to Bill Monroe, with love and affection since Blue Moon of Kentucky! The alt. take 1, we have in Essential Elvis vol. 4, takes the cake!!! Can’t get enough of it… (as well as the entire Elvis Country LP, easily one of best Country Rock record from all time and from anyone)
An ad lib throw away song if ever there was; 2 stars.
I've always loved this since the first time I heard it on the wonderful Elvis Country album. I've actually linked this one together with A Hundred Years From Now into a lovely medley! The song reminds me of how Elvis started out at SUN. In my book it's not a throw away song at all! A 5'r from this signature!
~ Exact lyrics as Elvis recorded it . . .
Tonight I'm alone without you, my dear
It seems there's a longing for you still
Aw, but I'll just keep it there so I won't be alone
In our little cabin home on the hill
Oh, someone has taken you from me
And left me here all alone
Well, to listen to the rain beat on my windowpane
In our little cabin home on the hill
Oh, someone has taken you from me
And left me here all alone
To listen to the rain beat on my windowpane
In our little cabin home on the hill
Short, sweet, wonderful bluegrass from Elvis. He's not throwing the song away. He's enjoying himself. Having fun.
