It Is No Secret (What God Can Do)

4.1 / 5

Words & Music: Stuart Hamblen

The chimes of time ring out the news,
Another day is through.
Someone slipped and fell.
Was that someone you?

You may have longed for added strength,
Your courage to renew.
Do not be disheartened,
For I have news for you.

It is no secret what God can do.
What He's done for others, He'll do for you.
With arms wide open, He'll pardon you.
It is no secret what God can do.

There is no night for in His light
You never walk alone.
Always feel at home,
Wherever you may go.

There is no power can conquer you
While God is on your side.
Take Him at His promise,
Don't run away and hide.

It is no secret what God can do.
What He's done for others, He'll do for you.
With arms wide open, He'll pardon you.
It is no secret what God can do.

Solemn. Not as smooth as his sixties gospels, but nevertheless besutifully sung.

I was not overly impressed as a group with the 4 gospel songs officially released in 1957 as I don't think Elvis had the voice and technique that was to follow 3 years later when he could effortlessly handle this type of song. However gioving that opinion I think this is the best of the bunch and has a certain charm and magic not so evident in the other 3 performances - 3 1/2 stars for this one.

Presley early gospel recording "never ceases to amaze me". He has such a passion and feeling that it's hard to imagine that he was only 22 and was Elvis The Pelvis/The King of Rock and Roll. Just precious! Nowadays it is no secret what Elvis can do, but back then it was once again ground breaking.

The only song I really enjoy on the gospel EP is "Peace In The Valley."

This is such a beautiful song and Elvis' rendition of it at the age of 22 was marvelous. Elvis always sang gospel songs with such great passion, intensity and feeling. He truly loved singing gospel songs.

There's a hardly a song I don't enjoy from the 50s maybe I love You Because. This is a very well sung gospel song which I've played countless times since the 1950s. When you listen to some of the stuff Elvis' contemporaries issued as album tracks and B sides you can hear just how outstanding each recording session was in those days in comparison to their lightweight efforts.

Still gives me goosebumps when I hear this gospel classic.

Just for the memories of it as a kid back in 1957, it was a hard listen back then as I was used to the Rock 'N Roll Elvis of 1956, but I've learned thru the years to appreciate it within the context of the "Peace In The Valley" 45RPM Extended Play Record, which I received as a gift if memory serves me correct.

I bought my 1st Elvis album in 1962. It was Elvis Christmas Album. Now, all these years later, Christmas wouldn't be the same without all these Elvis Christmas songs. It is no Secret is one of the many I enjoy every December. ****

Elvis sings this very beautiful; the same goes for 'Peace in the valley' and 'Take my hand'. I'm not so keen on his singing on 'I believe'; the 4th Gospelsong from 1957.
