Words & Music:
Tony Joe White
I've got something to tell you
That I think you ought to know
That my eyes are on you baby
Since a long time ago
And now I fin'ly got the nerve
And I'm gonna make my move
Now don't you try to turn me off
Cause it's gonna be hard to do
I've got a thing about you baby
Ain't nothing I can do
I've got a thing about you baby
A thing about lovin' you
Ain't it just like a woman
When she knows she's got a man
She'll wring you out and turn you 'bout
In the palm of her hand
And then she starts to thinkin'
Then maybe she's put you in a blind
She'll give you just a little lovin'
It'll drive you out of your mind
I've got a thing about you baby
Ain't nothing you can do
I've got a thing about you baby
A thing about lovin' you

Good song by Tony Joe White.Sounded like it should of been a bigger hit in America.
Like it. Should have been a hit!
Great song and a great track recorded in July '73 at Stax studios. Elvis is again laid back on this track as he was on a lot of the songs from this session and I think he was going for a funky, laid back sort of sound for this LP. Something different than his country LP's from the early 70's and away from the rock sound of "Burning Love". I am not sure why this song and "Take Good Care Of Her" weren't the first single from this session and why they weren't included on the LP "Raised On Rock".
I remember this song. Loved it then and I still love it. A true classic!
I never rated it strong enough to be a hit single. The song isn't too bad though
One of my all time Elvis favorites and for me one of his best work from the 70's. Anyway a Tony Joe White tune in an Elvis Style, just can't go wrong. What is hood about this marvelous tune is that it was coupled with "Take Good Care of Her", that is for me Elvis worst song ever. Probably a B side more Rock and less corny and country would had given this gem an higher and deserved place in the pop charts.
The final edit of this song is actually very good. I really like it, it's a different kind of song for Elvis and very catchy.
Love it.I like the sound in it,very fresh.
Love the album. 5 stars
Elvis didn't pick this song himself. Someone from RCA met White in a alley at Stax, asked White if he had something, White named two songs and those were recorded by Elvis. White should've named 30 songs. On Spotify it says that this song was remastered for Time Life Inc. in 1998. What does that mean?
A fine song, which was different from most of his output and a mini classic as far as I am concerned. The year 1973 produced many great productions and in my opinion was one of the best recording years of his career.
4.5 stars for one of those songs from they somewhat underrated STAX sessions that got a kind of rebirth with the recently released "Elvis at STAX", where all reviews suddently were quite positive.
This is such a fantastic, fun, overlooked, underrated and catchy song and Elvis' rendition of it was sensational. I've never skipped it. It should have been a hit for Elvis here in the United States, but it wasn't. It's such a shame that Elvis never sang it at any of his concerts.
According to Ernst Jorgensen in the book, "Elvis - Day by Day", the 1974 RCA single of
I've Got A Thing About You Baby/Take Good Care Of Her sold half-a-million copies in the U.S.
Too bad it hasn't been certified "Gold" by the RIAA. Maybe Sony/Ernst Jorgensen should look into that!
This a song I've always liked since I first heard it on the single. Elvis and Tony Joe White is a combination that really fits. Elvis should have done more TJW tracks. Regarding the single, I've always wondered how on earth Take Good Care Of Her could end up as a single side. The poorest track from the july 73 sessions imo. I would have paired with one of the rhythm tracks from Raised On Rock. Find Out What's Happening could have done better as a single side imo!
A minor hit in the UK and to me not a strong single contender at the time of release. The song is a good and I like both T J W's and Elvis' versions equally. I would have liked to hear a version of that other TJW classic, Rainy Night in Georgia done by Elvis.
A fun song and and easy to listen to again and again. The Tony Joe White (Polk Salad Annie) original is a good listen as well.
I read some where that there was a strike at RCA pressing plant and that’s what effected the sales and chart success in the UK. At the time RCA were trying to import from France. Shame cause this song should have been bigger. Love it and easy 5 stars
The singles aside from Burning Love started to go downhill after 1970, but this is one catchy tune. Elvis sounds a bit tired but it still should have done better for him. The B side is one of the worst Elvis songs in the 70's, a real snoozer, but what killed this I think is I never heard it on the radio. You cannot chart high without airplay.
definetly a real highlight of the early Stax sessions, curiously held back for single release and not included on Raised on Rock LP. I recall 2 things about the single release, 1, that there was an RCA strike at the time which caused problems with distribution, which presumably affected sales? 2, the single advertised an Easter 1974 TV Special, which was taken off the 2nd run of the single! Elvis did well to get chart placicing when not getting airplay which rigs us charts! A failure to promote recordings with tv appearances etc also clearly damaged sales.
Yes, very catchy song, love the version with the RPO.
