Words & Music:
Arranged by Elvis Presley
Well children by and by when the morning comes
All the saints of God together they come
We will tell the story how the Lord will come
And we'll understand him better by and by
Trials dark on every hand and we cannot understand
All the ways God will lead us
To the blessed promised land
He will guide us with his eye
And we'll follow till we die
And we'll understand him better by and by
Well children by and by when the morning comes
All the saints of God together they come
We will tell the story how the Lord will come
And we'll understand him better by and by
Temptation's hidden snares often take the sun away
And our hearts are made to bleed
For some thoughtless word or deed
And we wonder why the test when we try to do our best
But we'll understand it better by and by
Well children by and by when the morning comes
All the saints of God together they come
We will tell the story how the Lord will come
And we'll understand him better by and by
And we'll understand him better by and by

One of the better songs from the How Great Thou Art sessions, not as depressing as many of the other songs.
This is a great song, definitely an album highlight. But then again, How Great Thou Art only contained highlights
a great song from a great session.
Uplifting spiritual. Good job.
Good moving song and good lyrics. A winner.
Good recording from a great album. I preferred the 'His hand in Mine' album but this was great to listen to in the mid 60's as against the poor movie albums at that time.
When you think of it,we only had LPs such as "Pot Luck" & Something For Everyone" giving us something other than film soundtracks + these religious song's,I enjoyed singing along with them although I'm not religious.
The sound of this album was truly inspirational and awe inspiring. Wonderful stuff.
Even Elvis' critics had to acknowledge this particular Presley project. Not a bad performance or any substandard material on the whole album
The intro sounds like an old woman hammering the piano at a Baptist Revival show. I love this uplifting song.
Yes a really great inspirational gospel song that moves along at a pace and stirs this listener on each hearing

Well children, by and by when the morning comes
All the saints of God together at home
We will tell a story of how we overcome
And we'll understand it better by and by
Trials dark on every hand and we cannot understand
All the ways God will lead us
To the blessed promised land
He will guide us with his eye
And we'll follow till we die
And we'll understand it better by and by
Well children, by and by when the morning comes
All the saints of God together at home
We will tell a story of how we overcome
And we'll understand it better by and by
Temptations, hidden snares often take us unaware
And our hearts are made to bleed
For some thoughtless word or deed
And we wonder why the test when we try to do our best
But we'll understand it better by and by
Well children, by and by when the morning comes
All the saints of God together at home
We will tell a story of how we overcome
And we'll understand it better by and by... And we'll understand it better by and by
The sound on his hand mine was much much better, cleaner, then on the how great lp. Even the uptempo tracks sounds a little heavier here, and they are missing some of the effortless swinging sound of the first gospel lp, and elvis was in way better voice. But even if I'm an atheist, and even if i prefer his hand over how great in almost every aspect, i still think, that the how great lp is a great record, and this track here is delivered in a great way. It's not my favorite uptempo track on this album, but it's still very good though, and it deserves at least 4 stars imo.
Elvis doing what he loved best, gospel music. 5 stars.
Elvis in tip top form, good recording on a great album.
At the time when Elvis felt his career was at its lowest point, he turned to what he knew best. His faith and roots. 1966 was a very spiritual year as he and Larry spent a lot of time together. HGTA was the result and it’s an outstanding album. I love this song too although doctrinally incorrect, it’s sung with such feeling and spirit. 4 stars
