Almost

Rating:
4.3 / 5

Words & Music: Ben Weisman Buddy Kaye

We almost shared a dream
We almost made it as a team
How nice it would have been.

We almost touched the stars
And there stood heaven, almost ours
We were just outsiders looking in.

We had the chance to fall
But fate stepped in to end it all
Before it could begin.

And if it's true, you're really going
There's nothing but goodbye to say
The saddest part of all is knowing
We almost went all the way

Yes, Nice song, beautifully sung, nice words, well recorded. pity it was hidden away on a budget LP.

An intimate ballad sung with charm and tenderness from one of my top 5 favourite Presley films -The Trouble With Girls

One of my absolute fav Elvis tracks! A real hidden gem that NO non-Elvis fan knows. A very mature piano-based ballad, with some over-powering strings. But a song like this stands shoulder to shoulder with highly respected songs and singers, like Sinatra's "One for My Baby" or "Didn't We". In fact, it shares a lot of lyrical similarities to "Didn't We (Almost make it)", a song Glen Campbell did well, also Matt Monro. This was Elvis proving again that he could do anything. I sincerely wish he would have recorded "Softly As I leave You" in the studio at this stage in his career---WITHOUT the Sheryl Nielson vocal. Elvis could have done it right the way Bobby Darin or Matt Monro did. Still, I am grateful for this short, perfect song.

I really like the last line:the saddest part of all is knowing we almost went all the way. Elvis almost had her in bed!

This is a great song from the underrated 'Trouble With Girls' film. A standout performance that continues to holdup today.

Beautiful, short ballad from TTWG. Elvis could make you feel the sad lyrics of a song like no other song stylist.

This is a short, but very beautiful and underrated ballad and Elvis sang it with charm, sincerity, commitment and tenderness. I've never skipped it. It's a true gem of a song and recording for sure. It's certainly a much better song than a lot of Elvis' other 1960's movie soundtrack songs. 5 Stars.

5-stars. One of his better offerings during the late 1960's.

nothing that really touches me or stuck in mind after i have listened to it. So yes, there are good reasons why this song never gets any attention from the public, but still a solid composition and it's well performed. 3,5 (i gave 4) stars.
