From Elvis In Nashville

I hope they make it 100% complete, final masters included.

4 cds, that will include: That´s the way it is, the Country album, Love letters and Elvis now. did I forget something ? Will there be some alternate takes on this release ? Surely, but already they did release or unreleased one ? We will see.

I'm predicting that the set will focus on all 52 masters of Elvis' songs recorded in Nashville during 1970 & 1971, excluding the Gospel recordings & Christmas recordings.

. . . plus the best outtakes of the sessions, some studio chatter, some alternate takes (including both versions of "Until It's Time For You To Go"), "I Shall Be Released", "Lady Madonna", "My Way", and "Padre" maybe/maybe not . . .

I think it will be similar to the Stax release but focusing on the 1970 Nashville sessions due to being the 50th anniversary. All masters with a few outtakes. I don’t think there will be much new material that’s not already been out on FTD.

If you take all masters from 1970 recorded in Nashville, 2 CDs are enough. If you add the master from 1971 recorded in Nashville -- omitting the Gospel & Xmas Albums -- another CD would be enough. So there is room for (hopefully) some undubbed masters, maybe some of those where the master is heavily doubed. Of course the 1971 masters have no 50 anniversary yet, but seen alone, there would be no strong album to make of those next year.

I anticipate this to include the June 1970 masters and probably the September masters as well. These should cover two of the discs. The other two likely to be filled with highlights from the sessions, probably re-mastered in some way. A similar approach to "Elvis At Stax" & "Way Down In The Jungle Room". I do not see 1971 masters included, no other similar project included songs from other years. It will be aimed mainly at the casual fan. Us devoted fans and collectors are unlikely to get much new material. Still I might be tempted to buy the vinyl, less so the cd edition. Let's see what they come up with.

After buying the classic album versions of Elvis Country, TTWII and Love Letters from Elvis, 6 CDs in total, what's the point of buying some of the same material, perhaps in different order, even if the sound has improved? Because our ears certainly haven't.

It's a sony release. For the overall market. Maybe ftd will follow it up with the complete session series. But from every album released from these sessions we have a double cd on the ftd release.
