The forth issued, but number 5 in the series… let’s look at Elvis in 1969-1970
Design
As with the previous 3 the design is fantastic. The layout is taken care of in a very tasteful way and everything is top notch.
Content
With the content you can’t go wrong. Elvis was looking better than ever in 1969/1970 (although he had a weird pony for a short while). It is remarkable to notice once again how accessible Elvis was for his fans. Tons of candid shots prove this. The nature of those pictures makes that they are not all that focussed and sharp, but it is always great to see Elvis in his own relaxed way.
The fans that prefer the better quality photos get what they want too: shots from Change of Habit, the stunning series of the 1969 press conference, live in Vegas and on tour and rehearsals for That’s The Way It Is… it’s all there.
Still it’s not only looking at the pictures. There are well written background articles by Elvis-gurus like Piers Beagley, but also original newspaper clippings with reviews.
Conclusion
Erik Lorentzen didn’t let me down with this volume, au contraire as the French say. If I liked the previous three I must say I love this one.
I love them, but cant afford the series anymore. They are just too much money.
Indeed Steve V, I would have loved to buy them (all). The prices are way too much for me!
These are very nice books. I would buy but the prices are too high. On the other 7 g's in the Sun fund, problem solved.
Sorry Lex but what do you mean by a 'weird pony'? A serious question!
Steve, Oldscudder, what's the price for the book (shipping costs included) in the USA ? Just curious to know.Always El.
Johnny, the way his hair is cut on his forehead...
Benny, $165.00 and up. The first releases sold for 129.00. Too much of an increase for me.
Steve, I realy am astonished ! This is indeed way, way, way too overpriced ! I just don't get it . I simply cannot understand the difference in price between the USA and some countries in Europe. For instance, in Belgium, where I live, the book is offered for 59 euro. Being a member of a local Elvis fanclub I obtain a reduction of 10 %, that makes it 53,10 euro. I have to pay 5,30 euro for my trainticket to get the book. Total price : 58,4 euro. At the exchange rate of THIS MORNING this means : 73,62 USD !!!. I wonder what makes it so expensive in the USA. I wish I could find a way to make it possible you guys could obtain the book for a (in my opinion) fair price. Always El.
I guess shipping to the US makes it a lot more expensive.
Lex, you are, without any doubt, right about the (high) shipping costs to the USA. But as Steve V wrote, first releases for 129 $, and now 165 $ ! A difference of 36 $ = a serious increase indeed (27,9 % !). Seems we, here in Europe, are more or less favored. Always El.
I completely agree about the unbelievable prices!~ and POSTAGE is also 'unbelievable' for Example the 3kg 'Graceland Book' has a postage cost of 40 POUNDS to Australia... some 2/3rds of the book price as 'postage' i reckon postage is killing a LOT of books and i am making sure my SUN BOOK gets posted to Familly in England , so i can avoid the excessive postage costs once again. A CD has 'acceptable postage costs' but a heavy book such as 'ELVIS FILES 5' too much!~
Hi You Don't Know Me, I'm absolutely astonished about the postage cost(s) ! I hadn't the slightest idea it was that expensive. You're right : no wonder many fans skip some (book)releases due to way too high postage costs. Too bad! Always El.
