The fifth volume of Erik Lorentzen's massive series handles 1969-1970
The Elvis Files, Volume 5
Book
ElvisNews review
The forth issued, but number 5 in the series… let’s look at Elvis in 1969-1970
Design
As with the previous 3 the design is fantastic. The layout is taken care of in a very tasteful way and everything is top notch.
Content
With the content you can’t go wrong. Elvis was looking better than ever in 1969/1970 (although he had a weird pony for a short while). It is remarkable to notice once again how accessible Elvis was for his fans. Tons of candid shots prove this. The nature of those pictures makes that they are not all that focussed and sharp, but it is always great to see Elvis in his own relaxed way.
The fans that prefer the better quality photos get what they want too: shots from Change of Habit, the stunning series of the 1969 press conference, live in Vegas and on tour and rehearsals for That’s The Way It Is… it’s all there.
Still it’s not only looking at the pictures. There are well written background articles by Elvis-gurus like Piers Beagley, but also original newspaper clippings with reviews.
Conclusion
Erik Lorentzen didn’t let me down with this volume, au contraire as the French say. If I liked the previous three I must say I love this one.
