Happy Birthday, Desiree

April 24, 2010 | Music

Usually we just announce CDs, but this time we can't help and have to say this must be one of the most ridiculous releases ever. This is what the producers have to say about it:

In May the Virgo label will reissue 2 important Las Vegas concert recordings, both were recorded on the birthday of Elvis' first-born daughter, Desirée. On august 24. 1969, during the midnight show Elvis was in top form. He was the King again. But without his 11 years old daughter he was lonely. 'Are You Lonesome Tonight' sounded very sincere on this night. He sang it from his heart...

The next date is august 24. 1970. During the dinner show he didn't forget his daughter's 12th birthday and sang 'When The Snow Is On The Roses'  for the first and the last time, for Desirée. This show wasn't recorded professionally, but fortunately a member of the audience recorded it in fair quality.

Tracklist CD1: 1 - Blues Suede Shoes, 2 - I Got A Woman, 3 - All Shook Up, 4 - Love Me Tender, 5 - Jailhouse Rock/Don't Be Cruel, 6 - Heartbreak Hotel, 7 - Hound Dog, 8 - I Can't Stop Loving You, 9 - Johnny B Goode, 10 - Monologue, 11 - Baby What You Want Me To Do, 12 - Runaway, 13 - Are You Lonesome Tonight?, 14 - Words, 15 - Yesterday/Hey Jude, 16 - Introductions, 17 - In The Ghetto, 18 - Suspicious Minds, 19 - Can't Help Falling In Love

Tracklist CD2: 1 - Opening Theme/That's All Right, 2 - I Got A Woman/Spanish Eyes (1 line only), 3 - Tiger Man, 4 - I Just Can't Help Believin', 5 - You've Lost That Loving Feelin', 6 - Band Intros, 7 - Johnny B Goode, 8 - Intros of Celebrities, 9 - When The Snow Is On The Roses, 10 - The Wonder Of You, 11 - Heartbreak Hotel, 12 - One Night/All Shook Up (false start only), 13 - Blue Suede Shoes, 14 - Hound Dog, 15 - Bridge Over Troubled Water, 16 - Suspicious Minds, 17 - Release Me, 18 - Can't Help Falling In Love/Closing Vamp, Special Bonus Track: 19 - Interview with Lucy de Barbin & Desirée Presley

Ugh! Who on earth are they marketing this CD at? Nobody is going to take this seriously and even if someone was desperate to get their hands on these widely available shows they surely wouldn't hand their money over to anyone stupid enough to include and interview with those two gold diggers!
Erika Freiburger wrote on April 24, 2010
What a beautiful girl she was! She reminds me of the young Lisa Marie, though Desirée was more beautiful. This is just another re-release but i have to admit that i like the cover. For hardcore collectors it's will be an O.K release i think. Also for those who still don't have these shows. Love,Erika

Who the hell is Desiree? Am I missing something here?
benny scott wrote on April 24, 2010
Hi shoesue... Had to look it up myself . Desirée is the daughter of a woman who claimes Elvis is ( was) the father of the child. Seems the guys who release this CD take this "info" for granted. And even it it were true : what a bad taste to name this release after this child, whoever the father may be. Always El.

In the UK a 'desiree' is a red skinned potatoe!!.........though this was a real late April's fool joke but alas it appears not as i have seen this mentioned on other sites, thankfully most dealers are not going to worry about this release and for once i will pass on this release and spent it on something more interesting?.
shoesuedeblues wrote on April 24, 2010
Thanks for that benny. There is certainly a look of Elvis about her, a bit more convincing than the twaddle presumably from the inlay notes.

The shows are fine..the packaging is C-R-A-P..whatch out for Here I Go Again and The Night Elvis Sang When The Snow Is On The Roses...the latter is DS and NOT MS btw..
Erika Freiburger wrote on April 24, 2010
Ciscoking, does it mean that this will be the first release of the aug. 24. 1970 D/S with the CORRECT date? Because previously it was always wrongly dated, they said that it's the M/S. Even on the Live In Las Vegas BMG box-set they didn't know the correct date. They just mentioned that it's from aug. 1970. For the correct date alone this re-release is not completely useless. Love,Erika

And let's not forget that the 1969 show was always quite incomplete. On Here I Go Again the last few tracks were take from another show because the soundboard source is incomplete at the end. On FTD's Writing For The King the multi-track source is heavily edited by Ernst and badly mastered by Lene Reidel. And several tracks (Words,Baby What You Want Me To Do) are only available on the Platinum box-set in multi-track quality. But if you check the track-list above, this show seems to be almost complete, only What'd I Say is missing. If this show is a compilation of all known sources (multi-track and soundboard where no multi track available) then this release is MAYBE not as ridiculous as some say... Let's wait and see before we judge.
Ciscoking wrote on April 24, 2010
NEVER does such a crappy release contain NEW material...Erika ...we had the 24.8.70 show on import The Night Elvis Sang...but it was wrongly dated MS..yes it is the first release which dates it DS..but hey..you can read this fact e.g. on my site..so no big deal..
Zoltan84 wrote on April 24, 2010
You misunderstood me,Cisco. I didn't write that there will be unreleased material on it. I just wrote that now we will have the show on this cd in almost complete form. Probably they will use the multi track recordings from Writing For The King and Platinum and the missing (edited) parts will be taken from the soundboard source. Only What'd I Say is missing because it isn't available in any form. No,there's probably nothing new here, but now you can have this show on ONE cd instead of THREE cd's (Here I Go Again - Platinum cd3 - Writing For The King cd1). Buying those 3 releases would cost you at least $150 while this new release won't be more expensive than $25 or $30.

How do you get a copy of this Cd if you are from the USA?
Ciscoking wrote on April 25, 2010
Sorry, Zoltan..now I got it right..;-)

Interesting release to say the least:) I guess that a few years later it will be a rarity and sellers will ask a lot of money for it. The shows are obviously very good, the cover is interesting (despite its amateurism) so i have mixed feelings now. Maybe i will get it.
Erika Freiburger wrote on April 25, 2010
I already have these shows (the second show only on CD-R) but i like this cover so much that i have to buy this one. This is one of the most unusual bootleg covers i've ever seen. Love,Erika
MarkJ wrote on April 25, 2010
That girl looks just like Elvis in the mouth and eyes.
Erika Freiburger wrote on April 25, 2010
You're a beautiful girl,Desirée! And your mother,Lucy is a beautiful woman, too. Two beautiful ladies with raven hair. God bless you. You're in my heart. Love,Erika
Ruthie wrote on April 25, 2010
This is about the most ridiculous thing I've seen yet! And people are so gullible - they will believe anything they want to believe. And then they will buy it. Again, it's their money & their business but Desiree is not Elvis' daughter. This story surfaces every few years, like many others. I read the book years ago & trust me many lovely women could be his daughter. When you really see her & mother up close, they look more mediterrean than anything else. Both are lovely women but not related to Elvis. DNA (which was offered as a service) could prove the whole story but was not acted upon. Just like the young man who surfaced a couple years ago & claimed to be Elvis' son raised by good friends (employees). We all know Elvis was no saint & really made his rounds in the love/sex dept but he was also a decent man who would have taken care of any child of his, if that was truly the case.
rickeap wrote on April 26, 2010
So Elvis said happy birthday Desiree on that night??? Of course not, what a silly title
theoldscudder wrote on April 26, 2010
Ruthie, Calm down take your meds. It makes no difference if she is or isn't the Kings daughter. All this fuss is quite silly. What is important is his music & not his personal life.
Ruthie wrote on April 27, 2010
Actually, old scudder, I was beginning to sound like you - yikes! I wasn't upset about anything. I was just making the same statement that you refer to time & time again - that it's the music that counts. I am just nicer about it & don't pick on people personally. However, if I find myself once again sounding like you, I will go on meds.
SnOwMan wrote on April 27, 2010
In my opinion Desirée is definitely his biological daughter. In Lisa Maria i'm not sure. Priscilla cheated Elvis a few times with Mike Stone,Chuck Norris and others,so we can't be sure that Lisa is his daughter. She never proved his relation to Elvis with a DNA test if i remember correctly.
JimmyCool wrote on April 27, 2010
SnOwMan, Lisa Marie looks EXACTLY like his father: Same nose, same eyes, same mouth, same everything!
SnOwMan wrote on April 27, 2010
That doesn't mean anything. Some of the impersonators look like Elvis, too, still they are not relatives.
benny scott wrote on April 27, 2010
There is no reason why Ruthie should take meds. Her posting didn't offend or hurt anyone, and surely wasn't meant to do so. Just her honest opinion and no harm done. Pls let's not start again with personal attacks or sarcastic remarks. Doing so was and IS one of the reasons we had the article " Life as an ElvisNews Editor...." .Let's be friends in the real meaning of this sentence. Always El.
Erika Freiburger wrote on April 27, 2010
I love you,Desirée! I hope you read this, wherever you are.

She's a hot chick. Elvis' daughter or not,i would .... her:)
dgirl wrote on April 27, 2010
Daughters? Who cares. Too bad a son doesnt come forward!
Zoltan84 wrote on April 27, 2010
Too much talking about the supposed daughter and too minimal talking about the music!!! These are great shows, the 1970 concert contains an ultra rare song and that's all that matters. Everything else is secondary.
TBG wrote on April 27, 2010
Yo Snowman, Pricilla was 22 and a virgin when she married Elvis (at least that's how the story goes..), anyway I think that Elvis would have noticed if she wasn't... 9 months later they got Lisa Marie. Of course she's Elvis' daughter. I bet you still think Elvis is alive, 0911 N.Y was actually a US Government conspirancy, and that there are aliens living on planet Earth..
SnOwMan wrote on April 27, 2010
Was she virgin until may 1967? I doubt it. Did you read Suzanne Finstad's book,CHILD BRIDE?
Expresleyelvis wrote on April 27, 2010
Good marketing try but thanks, no, thanks Desiree baby. Your still hooked on that stuff hé...what do you smoke these days babe?
lisarose wrote on April 27, 2010
geez Louise, now I've heard - almost - everything! So does Elvis actually mention the name Desiree anywhere in the monologue? and I could do without the interviews from the women, but the playlist sounds good.
theoldscudder wrote on April 27, 2010
Ruthie, The meds statement was said tongue in cheek.
GeertFromNl wrote on April 27, 2010
This cover is so ridiculous that it's almost good! It's already a classic.
Myron (Pa) Stavros wrote on April 28, 2010
Nice try girl, but thanks, NO, won't buy this junk. Also In doubt of your quality....You must be starving out there in the swamps...(where you perhaps belong).

"Expresleyelvis" aka "Myron (Pa) Stavros" aka "OurKing4life" aka "glenntcb" aka "tcbRoss" aka "kink56" aka... aka... aka... aka... Isn't it boring to register every day with another username and writing the same crap all the time? The user name is always different but your same writing style easily submerges you.

Very hot looking.
Edge_Of_Reality wrote on April 29, 2010
Wehehe, this cover is a nonsense!:) How in the world could someone create such a strange cover is beyond me. But at least it's different. And different is often interesting. Of course interesting doesn't necessary mean good. (a side note: the girl was hot looking, indeed)
Expresleyelvis wrote on May 06, 2010
Although I do like some of the alternative renditions of the-same-old-songs, I will NOT buy it if the quality is not good or mediocre. Has anyone heard that interview with Lucy/Desiree (or is this also fabricated crap?). Do like some of those flying by comments of fans who are always negative, never pro-actively positve or creative. Boring people it seems to me with no feeling for undertaking enterprise or good marketing of Elvis product that all fans like. They are the ones that complain all the time, monkey see-monkey do-types, followers of cattle (Stay-away-Joers I call them). Cheers !
