Tonight Is So Right for Love

Rating:
3.8 / 5

Words & Music: Abner Silver Sid Wayne

Hold me tight
The moon’s so bright
Tonight is so right for love

Now’s the time to say
You’re the only one
Tonight is so right for love

One by one the stars appear
They twinkle in your eyes
Who’d believe that we’d be here
So near to paradise

This could be the kiss
To unlock heaven’s door
That magic hour of bliss
That we both waited for
I love more and more

Oh’ we could fly right up to the sky
The things we’ve been dreaming of
And how real they would seem
A midsummernight’s dream
Can’t you see that tonight’s so right for love

And how real they would seem
A midsummernight’s dream
Can’t you see that tonight’s so right for love

Hold me tight
The moon’s so bright
Tonight is so right for love

A "so-so" song doesn't keep Elvis from giving a classic, powerful performance. Elvis was really anxious to show he could sing in 1960-61 and that he was more than a rock and roll singer (something fans knew, but critics still doubted). In those two years, he gave every song he sang repsect and 100% effort. 4 stars

This song is based on a German Offenbach song. A great vocal performance by Elvis, but not by the irritating Jordanaires.

A poor man's It's Now or Never if you like, but most songs pale against that performance. A pretty good song from a good film album, that I don't play that often, but when I do it is an enjoyable experience - 4 stars.

I've always liked this movie ballad immensely and I've never skipped it. It's got such beautiful lyrics and it's such a very underrated gem too. It's such a great vocal performance by Elvis. Five stars from me.

5-stars. I remember I hadn't any idea Elvis had a new album out back in 1960 when I was standing in a local pharmacy scanning over a magazine and within it was an advertisement for this new album "G. I. Blues"; needless to say I purchased it in glorious mono and the first song was "Tonight Is So Right for Love" which I thought was vastly different from anything Elvis had done up to this point. A really good song and a great lead-in track for this album.

I always liked it, Good lead off song for the album, but GI Blues was a huge step down from Elvis IS Back for me in 1960. I think Elvis felt this way also. Still his voice was so perfect in 1960 he made fluff sound good.
