Paralyzed

Rating:
4.4 / 5

Words & Music: Elvis Presley Otis Blackwell

When you looked into my eyes
I stood there like I was hyp-notised
You sent a feeling to my spine
A feeling warm and smooth and fine
But all I could do were stand there paralyzed
When we kissed, ooh what a thrill
You took my hand and, ooh baby, what a chill
I felt like grabbin' you real tight
Squeeze and squeeze with all my might
But all I could do were stand there paralyzed

Oh yeah lucky me, I’m singing ev'ry day
Ever since that day you came my way
You made my life for me just one big happy game
I'm gay ev'ry morning
At night I’m still the same
Do you remember that wonderful time
You held my hand and swore that you'll be mine
In front of preacher you said
"I do" I couldn't say a word for thinking of you
All I could do was stand there paralyzed

One of my favorite songs ever from Elvis from my favorite LP. As good as anything he ever did. Could have been a smash number 1. This is as good as it gets.

A gem and a song I play fairly often, I also like the MDQ version too which is more gutsy.

One of 12 from the "Elvis" album - his second LP. Never get tired of hearing it; a typical Otis Blackwell song, much in the same vein as All Shook Up or Don't Be Cruel.

I always feel uplifted after hearing this song, an upbeat rock and roll number that emits so much youthful energy. This was a belated UK top ten entry in 1957 when Elvis changed distributuion labels from HMV to RCA. and they released some older tracks as a last hurrah - Easily 5 stars.

Elvis seemed reluctant to sing it on request on the Million Dollar Quartet. Perhaps he didn't like it that much. Has he ever sang it live? Not as good as All shook up or Don't be cruel, although it sounds alike.

This is such a sensational, underrated, overlooked and fun song and Elvis' rendition of it was stellar. I've never skipped it. This should have been a major hit for Elvis here in the United States, but it sadly wasn't. It's a true masterpiece of a recording. It's from one of Elvis' very best albums too.

One of my all time favorites in music (not just Elvis music). I love this music so much since the 1st time I’ve listen to it, 35 years ago, and my love never decreased. It's a part of my soul. Thank You Elvis. Thank you for everything you gave and represent for me.

Should have been a single release. Fun rocker in the tradition of "Don"t Be Cruel".

A good LP track in the vain of "Don't Be Cruel" and "All Shook Up", but nowhere near the song or recording they were. For those who say this should have been a single, which single would you have replaced with this song? "Love Me Tender" was already a planned release when this song was recorded and there was no way RCA and the Colonel would have not released the title song to Elvis' first film. "Too Much" is a superior song and I don't think "Paralyzed" would have spent three weeks at #1 on the best seller list like TM did. "All Shook Up" was the next release. This song is where it belongs on his second LP. 3.5 stars for the song, maybe 3.5 for the LP, but I don't love this LP near as much as many do.

Fantastic recording. Just a fun song that Elvis nails. One of the hidden gems of the 50's.
