I may not be here tomorrow
But I'm close beside you today
So lie to me a little, say you love me a lot
And I'll be true to you in my way
Love never goes on forever
At least that's what wise men all say
So smile when you kiss me, tomorrow you may cry
But I'll be true to you in my way
Yes I'll be true to you in my way

The ballads recorded for the movie "Wild In The Country" are very quiet, pleasant, but dreary recordings. They are not bad and I don't use the word dreary to mean anything more than to make a comparison. "Can't Help Falling In Love" is a ballad that makes you happy like on a sunny day, these songs ("Lonely Man", the title song, "In My Way" and "Forget Me Never") are like a cloudy day. They don't represent Elvis' best work and like the movie, they are just lacking something. Still Elvis sings this one well and if you listen to it in between some faster songs I think you can appreciate it more. Listening to the four ballads recorded for this movie in a row, would be a little dull.
A poignant cut from an exceptional Elvis flick: sung on a lonely stairwell, on Tuesday Weld's beat up Spanish 6-string. An appropriately intimate and desolate setting, then, for a performance which best captures the multifarious talents of the young Mr. Presley. And to think: just over ten years earlier, he could perhaps be found in a similarly rickety stairwell, enthralling the residents of either 572 Poplar or Lauderdale Courts with his plaintive singing and expressive rhythm playing ("like somebody beating on a bucket lid").
Great scene in the movie. The song is more effective on film than on record.
The songs from Flaming Star, Wild in the Country, Kid Galahad & Follow that Dream should have been released on one album at the end of 1962. In my way etc are all good album songs, not really good enough for singles release as during this period we had Can't help falling in love, good luck charm & she's not you.
"In My Way" and also "Forget Me Never" are two of my absolute favorite Elvis songs. There is nothing I enjoy more than only Elvis' voice and an acoustic guitar---no drums, no Jordanaires, no frills. (I even stripped away the Jordanaires from "Love Me Tender" and "Are You Lonesome Tonight" just to really hear the beauty of Elvis' voice more clearly.) Everyone should give this a listen on headphones!
This song is a beauty!I love it.The only bad thing is that it's too short!
This song is a real beauty. Johnny Cash said he didn't hear Elvis alone with his guitar enough. Rick Rubin would have done great things with Elvis. Just Elvis and his guitar or piano. I don't need more.
The tender ballad voice of Elvis changes a too short unremarkable song into something more substantial and memorable.
Most say this track is too short. So with today's knowledge of remixing it would be so easy. Just add a nice guitar solo at the end of the 2nd verse, then repeat the 2nd verse. Nice track anyway.
Great song and it really fits on the recent FTD release and original album "Elvis for Everyone". There were a lot of great but short songs from the early 60's era from his movies.
This is such a tender and beautiful ballad and Elvis' rendition of it was stellar. But, I wish that this song would have had one or two additional verses written for it though.
Now that I see that lyrics in print, this is a cheatin' song. Love me today, tomorrow I'll be gone.
Pretty ballad. Well sung. Fits movie scene well. I enjoy the song on record as well. Tuesday Weld was gorgeous. Song: 4 stars. Tuesday Weld: 5 stars.
A hidden gem. Sparse, beautiful sung. 5 stars.
