Words & Music:
Willie Phelps
I'm beginning to forget you
That old heartache is gone
I'm beginning to sleep at night
No more crying 'till dawn
I can hear your name mentioned
And it brings no misery
I'm beginnin to forget you
Like you forgot me
I'm beginning to smile again
After crying for so long
I can hear the tune we loved so well
And it's just another song
I'm so happy that it's over
I'm so thankful to be free
I'm beginnin to forget you
Like you forgot me

On a Life In Music, he sings it without accompaniment. First he sings it "country", then straight.
Lovely number! Wish he would have recorded a studio version.
This is such a sensational song and the best home recorded version of this song by Elvis can be found on the RCA/BMG CD "The Home Recordings" and also on the FTD CD "In A Private Moment". That excellent home recorded version of this song was such a great find for sure. It's one of Elvis' very finest home recordings for sure. But, I've never liked Elvis' a capella version of this song that can be found on the four disc RCA/BMG box set "Platinum: A Life in Music".
As a Private Recording it is one of the better performances, however I always end up thinking about these home efforts why did you not do a studio recording. Listenable but not something I return to very often.
