Of this weeks picture we do not know an exact date, but we do know that it was made during the making of ‘Viva Las Vegas.’ And since filming was between July 15th and September 11th 1963, it has to be in that period. Elvis is standing next to Anne de Zogheb, for most of us not so very well known. But her husband sure is, he is ‘the other man’ on the picture. And he of course is, Paul Anka. Paul and Ann were married that same year in February (they were divorced in 2000). At the age of barely 14, Paul became an instant star after his ‘serenade’ to a former babysitter; ‘Diana.’ He would go on to have hitsongs in the sixties & seventies. Known for his writing skills, Frank Sinatra asked Paul in 1969 if he had any good material. He came up with a song he had written based on a French song he heard while on vacation in France; "Comme d'habitude" composed in 1967 by Claude François and Jacques Revaux, with lyrics by Claude François and Gilles Thibault. His version ‘My Way,’ has a total other meaning but it is often said that it is the most covered song in history. And so here we have an Elvis link again, because on June 10th 1971 Elvis would record this song also. But this version wouldn’t be released until 1995 on the box set ‘Walk a mile in my shoes.’ During his lifetime, Elvisfans did know the song very wel. It is one of the most well known songs from the ‘Aloha from Hawaii’ special and Elvis also sang it during his last television special in 1977. The song was the first posthumous single with B-Side ‘America, the Beautiful’ to be released after Elvis passed away.

I am more of a rock & roll fan but did see Paul Anka in concert on Oct 2010 and was surprised how good he is in concert but I have heard he is tough on his band and orchestra. I am not a fan of the song My Way either as I always believed Elvis should have left those type of songs to Frank Sinatra and Andy Williams although Elvis had the singing chops to sing ANYTHING sometimes I wish he would have done more rock & roll in the 70s instead of the MOR songs as it sometimes hurts his R&R legacy

Diana was really teeny bopper but 'Put Your Head On My Shoulder' is a true boy/girl 50's classic ballad. It was a great dance song back in the day. I agree, My Way is for lounge singers and Frank did a great job with it, but its not a song I would ever play by anyone, even Elvis.

"My Way" by ELVIS is the classic version that even trumps Sinatra's. I give it the same amount of stars that are in the heavens.
