Baby I Don't Care

Rating:
4.4 / 5

Words & Music: Jerry Leiber Mike Stoller

You don't like crazy music.
You don't like rockin' bands.
You just wanna go to a movie show,
And sit there holdin' hands.
You're so square.
Baby, I don't care.

You don't like hotrod racin'
Or drivin' late at night.
You just wanna park where it's nice and dark.
You just wanna hold me tight.
You're so square.
Baby, I don't care.

You don't know any dance steps that are new,
But no one else could love me like you do, do, do, do.

I don't know why my heart flips.
I only know it does.
I wonder why I love you, baby.
I guess it's just because
You're so square.
Baby, I don't care.

A great Leiber & Stoller rocking number, Elvis version was outstanding, could he do any wrong in those days? I also loved Buddy Holly's cover of the song too.

This was one of the songs that made me discover Elvis when I was young and show what Elvis could do playing with his voice.

Not much of a great song but an efficient one though. Fits perfectly in Jailhouse Rock ! Interesting is the fact that Elvis plays the only bass number in his career on that very recording !

Some songs you just love the first time you hear it. This is one of those songs. I think it´s one of his best rock songs ever. I didn´t know that Elvis played bass on this recording. But I doubt it´s the only bass number he played. I´ve read that he played bass on "Blue Eyes Cryin´ In The Rain", so many years later.

A true pearl. A Classic. A fantastic Rock number that would be a single in anyone's music catalogue. And it's true: Elvis played the intro bass part since Bill Black, unsatisfied with the sound of his new electric bass throw it away on the studio floor!

This is Elvis! Its the voice that stirred so many souls in those days including Buddy Holly who was really moved by this song. A great Leiber/Stoller tune and a perfect performance. If only they could have been part of Elvis' career throughout the 60's. What a trio!

Now this is the real king. Glorious rockabilly. Not even Carl Perkins could touch this. Compare this with the piece of crap that was yesterdays song of the day , if you dare.

This is a great rockin tune! Makes you want to get up there & rock away, make a fool of yourself & everything! No, really it's a lot of fun. And one of many songs that Elvis played bass. They are all mentioned in Ernst's book.

I don't like this song... not because it's bad, but because of the poor sound of it. I know Elvis overdubbed his voice later, and they have released the vocals only and it sounds crystal clear, so they should made a new master with better sound.

Great song, great dancing in the movie to this song, a Rock classic. Even todays children can see the magic that comes from this song from this movie music clip

Perfect rock and roll. You could never beat the combo of Elvis and Leiber/Stoller.

Truly & strictly Elvis. This is why we put him on a postage stamp. Not for the jumpsuits or Vegas. This is why!

The only songs I ever cared for about JHR were the single versions of the title tune and "Treat Me Nice." Nothing else on the soundtrack appeals to me at all.

In my opinion, it is far from a classic; but it is still a very good rock and roll track. This would be in the second tier of Elvis rockers and I think it is the 5th best song in the movie "Jailhouse Rock" behind the title tune, "Treat Me Nice", "I Want To Be Free" and "Young And Beautiful". Heck, I think I even prefer listening to "Don't Leave Me Now" as opposed to this one. Still, it is a four star track.

As a young kid I always fooled around with this song and now-a-days it is as much fun as 40 years ago! Amidst all those great RnR recordings Elvis made this is another gem. Listen to the way he handled his voice, stressed on and being in full control of the rhythm. As a matter of fact the whole collection of songs from Jailhouse Rock presents the vast scope of his musical talent. Singing, dancing, rock 'n' roll, ballad and so on and so forth. If you want an overall view just listen to these songs.

Elvis doing what Elvis did best, recording another rock 'n roll gem. In 1957 who else did it better?!!

An intelligent and playful rock song from a legendary movie. Elvis is at his greatest in Jailhouse rock, but the sound of this recording is not that good, hopefully we get this song remastered one day with crystal clear sound. Not legendary like the title song but fantastic performance for sure. Four stars from me.

An instant classic from the "Jailhouse Rock" EP which spent 28 weeks at number one. "The King" would break his own record with the "King Creole" volume 1 EP the next year. The likes of Buddy Holly and Queen have performed this song.

This is such a fantastic, fun, energetic, groovy and electrifying song and it's easily one of Elvis' very best movie songs. It's yet another masterpiece written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.

One of my top ten 50's rock tracks as performed by Elvis. and seems to typify his image. A fantastic rocker that seems to get better through the years and a song I can play again and again. This would have been an enormous seller if issued as a single.

Is this the first song of which the instruments were recorded before Elvis did his vocal? He had to play the bass because Bill Black couldn't (get used to his new Fender Bass). A real great rocker, recorded by Jodi Mitchell and Don McClean, without much succes though.

A lost classic, again should have been a single release. Would have been a towering hit. This song has been covered by a lot of other people since Elvis's original but always comes back to Elvis. I feel "Jailhouse Rock" was Elvis's best soundtrack.

Other than the fact he played Bill Black's electric Fender Bass intro on this song, it's a do nothing for me tune. A good flick though as all 4 made in the 1950's were compared to what was coming in the 1960's.

Baby I Don't Care, Treat Me Nice and Jailhouse Rock -- you can't get any better than that in one place.

A fun song that was unfortunately recorded with a rather flat sound.

Pure perfection. Love that bass. 5 stars

A great track spoilt by poor sound. I’m surprised it got approved. Maybe that was the best you could get for overlaying vocals on a backing track in the 50’s. The record version of Treat me nice is the best from the sound track but this is a good 3 stars.

I loved this track as commented back in 2012 and still do. Perhaps I am a pleb in musical taste but I don't understand the criticism of this track and many others of his that electrify me, and would expect an average of 4.9 but alas not to be
