Tiger Man – An Alternate Anthology – Volume 6

By ElvisNews.com/ Kees, May 01, 2007 | Music
The Shake Records label keeps popping out new releases in their “Tiger Man - Alternate Anthology Series”, while we’re reviewing volume six, volume seven has already been announced.

Design

In line with their previous releases a good looking cover, basic liner notes and a track listing. Too bad the producers don’t read our reviews, the correct track info – essential to collectors – is the one thing missing here, especially when you blow your own trumpet in the booklet claiming to release new material.

Content

How to review this CD? The CD’s are copies of previously released material from other boots, reviewing that may result is copies of previously written reviews. Again the producers had a good hand in selecting the songs for this compilation; “Stay Away”, “Only The Strong Survive” “Twenty Days And Twenty Nights”, “Always On My Mind”. “Three Corn Patches” and the “Rock My Soul / You Better Run” medley are always a pleasure to listen to. But the addition of “Padre”?!? Bad choice! The pro of this series is use of alternate versions making these compilations sound different from the standard compilation, but there it ends. As for the tracks themselves, the audio quality of several tracks is a bit lesser than on the previous releases in this series, it the well running on empty?

Conclusion

This label will probably never reach the quality of the Madison label’s “A Legendary Performer” series, but due to the hard to get material – which version it may be - is interesting for every fan.

Some may say I'm hypocrite - since all bootlegs are thievery - and I think they might be right. Still I like to make a difference between bootlegs and bootlegs. You have the Top 40 bootlegs... just a quick way to make a buck through thievery. On the other hand we have the fans/bootleggers. They just get a kick out of releasing new stuff, and thus making other fans happy. The profit (if any) is mostly put into the next project. No need to say I think "Shake Records" is more of the first category. The name is obvious... they love to "shake your pockets". Somehow it doesn't surprise me...
