50 Australian Top 10 Hits 1956-1977

By ElvisNews.com/ Lex, February 18, 2010 | Music

To be honest I never would have bought this compilation myself, since I have more than enough of them by now. Thanks to Elvis Australia I am able to give my view on it.

Design

The outside looks pretty attractive like the discs themselves, vinyl look with a Gold and a Silver label. The booklet has a lot of interesting information (basic info on the songs and remarks by a chart expert), but the balance/ mix between text and pictures could have been better. This is a missed chance to add more memorabilia or related pictures.

Content

Of course I had all those tracks at least once, and most of them countless times. Still, the fact that for the past three weeks one of these CDs has been in my player shows that this is a very nice compilation. Even songs that I normally wouldn’t pick to play, like Do the Clam can’t spoil the complete package.

Conclusion

A very nice compilation, of which certainly the second disc will continue to find its way to my player in the future.

I bought this. Great track list. Some unique inclusions. Great sound. For me it's the music that counts. Booklet, pictures etc. don't mean squat to me.

Servus Elvis fans, it's really funny that there's no 'Hound Dog' & 'Don't Be Cruel' in the Australian TOP 10 but 'Do The Clam'. Is it possible that David Troedson & Wayne Hawthorne have forgotten the #1 double-sider? However, it's a great compilation without 'Hound Dog' & 'Don't Be Cruel'.

No, they didn't forget it. It simply didn't chart Top Ten there. The absence of Hound Dog/Don't Be Cruel is one of the reasons I bought the package. If there are two big '50s hits I'm sick of hearing it's those two.
