The potential of picture and sound quality is very limited, so i have my doubt that this is going to be much betger than what we already have. I doubt that this release is worth the price for those of us that already have the previous releases. Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with the announcement, im sure that this will be a nice release for casual buyers, but i will skip this one.
Both the Elvis Australia and Superdeluxeedition websites have a slightly different content for the second blu-ray disc that includes: Huh-Huh-Huh Promo - June 30, 1968, Elvis Closing Credits Without Credit Roll - June 30, 1968, If I Can Dream Special Music Video 2004 - June 30, 1968, and "Blu-ray Special Feature Re-Cut", Also included: :80-page book includes a new, oral history on the special, crafted from interviews with producer Steve Binder, recording engineer Bones Howe, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Priscilla Presley, Emmylou Harris, Scotty Moore conducted for Thom Zimny's 2018 documentary, 'Elvis Presley: The Searcher'. The book also features rare photos and memorabilia and full recording data.
Just a note on the Blu-ray included with this package. Blu-ray discs can store 50GB of HD material. That's a massive 100GB for 2-Discs. So, if the contents info above is correct, there's a huge unused space left on them. Therefore they could easily have fitted in the 2006 edit of the show, as shown in selected theaters worldwide last August for the 50th Anniversary, including Steve Binder's and Priscilla's commentary about the show.
EJF, as I mentioned below, that's the "Blu-ray Special Feature Re-cut" on the second blu-ray disc as per the tracklisting provided by Elvis Australia.
Thanks Martin DJ for pointing that out. I had read your post but didn't realize the "Blu-ray Special Feature Re-Cut" referred to the 2006 edit I asked about. This puts this awesome set in my wish list, even though I already have 99% of this stuff on previous releases. Only the price will keep me a step back from purchasing, which I'm sure will not be cheap.
I already have all the previous releases of this material. I'm good with what I have. I'm not spending another dime on it.
Man I was really hoping this would contain the directors cut but looks like its not here. It would have given me a reason to buy this.
circleG, in several comments below it is pointed out that the director's cut (otherwise known as "Blu-Ray Special Feature Re-cut") is included.
It's really funny that some people (like in the fb comments we read on this side) are so excited about the fact that it's going to be released on blu-ray. I mean, is the quality getting better because of this? No. This thing was taped on video for television in 1968, the sound of the live-stuff is in mono, the medium dvd was easily capable to show us the full potential of this material. There are tons of dvds out there that have much better picture and audio quality than what we have on the nbc 3 dvd deluxe edition. In fact it didn't even come close to show us what the medium dvd can do, bcause you can't get a quality out of the material that simply isn't there. This isn't a movie, this isn't on film . Don't get me wrong, im not complaining about it, I'm glad we have the material, i love it, the quality isn't bad for a tv show from that time, i have absolutely no problems with it, but to expect a noticeable better quality just because it comes on a "new" format seems strange to me.
I saw the special in a movie theatre a couple of months ago and even though it was originally taped on video it looked spectacular.
MartinDJ if true you have made me smile. At last! Binders vision as it was meant to be seen. Complete. Un-cut. Fantastic.
( sorry but the special edition was just a pizza-fest and totally unnecessary to think it could improve over Binders work).
This is a beauty! But i think i'll skip this one. I'm into music and not so on video. I have the 4 CD box of the Complete Comeback special from a few years ago. I think € 110,00 is too much for me........
