FTD released another 2LP set, this time featuring Elvis’ 1975 studio sessions.
Design
The front cover picture fits the title better than the original cover. Unfortunately this 1975 shot is blown up a bit too much, which makes it pretty grainy. The inside has a big picture of the Atlanta show on May 2, 195. Less grainy, but also Elvis is looking less healthy. The other half of the inside is filled with memorabilia, like letters, labels and covers from the time of the original album. At the back is another Huntsville shot.
Content
Soundwise I regarded this session as one of the better, certainly from those of the 1970s. The (acoustic) guitars are crystal clear, as is the piano. The balance between the musicians and their instruments is near perfect. Unfortunately not all songs are great, but overall it is a pleasant listen. Most of all Elvis sounds inspired on it, something that can’t be said of many other 1970s recordings.
The first LP has the original mixes that gave the album its name. The tracks are I a different order than the 1975 LP, which might be questionable, since there is no obvious reason (recording order or even alphabet). The second disc has outtakes (and Tiger Man!).
Conclusion
I just read that in the UK this year more money was spent on vinyl than on digital downloads, I am obviously not the only music lover that likes vinyl
