FTD will release a 2CD 5" set before Christmas: The Spirit of Jackson, Ms.
On May 5th 1975, Elvis performed a concert in aid of the McComb tornado victims at the State Fair Coliseum, Jackson, Mississippi. Elvis raised $108, 860 to help residents who were affected by the devastation. The audio for this show is damaged beyond repair. However, Sprit Of Jackson, MS includes two other shows from the State Fair Coliseum. Just over a month after the charity show, Elvis performed in Jackson again and this show is featured on Disc 2. Disc 1 stays at the same venue for a concert given in September 1976.

Don't you think it's strange that the FTD label choose to release a show from September 1976 again? We already had the evening show from September 6, 1976 on bootleg as "Still Rocking The Nation". Then FTD released on Elvis In Alabama the afternoon and evening show. And now we have the show from the day before.
It's rather strange that FTD is still re-releasing concerts we already have on old bootlegs. Again FTD will release an old bootleg show (Cut Em Down To Size & Leaving Jackson On Fire) with the June 9, 1975 show from Jackson.
Yes and it is because of these facts that i'm not particularly excited by this release.had it truly been a completely unheard show such as Jackson 5th May 75 i would have been really up and excited about it, but as it is 'ok release getting decent 76' show -but however you look at this it is neither essential or inspiring is it!?
I actually like the idea of FTD adopting a city or state specific concert release. Besides I'm looking forward to see what the '76 show is like. But I agree that these shows could've waited a while considering we already have these tours documented recently. We're long overdue for an early '70's concert, especially a stereo release. I see no point in promoting the May 5 show in the press release if the source is unusable. Therefore they should change the front cover too.
Boring, boring, boring....for the obvious reasons...
Wow what a unique setlist. If any performer was in need of a concert rework, it was Elvis. Yes Ton, Boring is being kind.
Not an inspiring release and definitely a lack of spirit in that cover design.
Just heard the 1975 show on you tube since I don't have the bootleg. Definitely not worthy of release in it's entirety. Sounds like Elvis is just biding his time until the Memphis show.
I only have a handful of these live recordings (mainly the well known vaunted ones ) and I find it perplexing when people go on about the same set lists and his lack of song variation. In the 1970's I could have perhaps travelled once or twice from the UK to see him and looking back any set list would have been terrific. He did change the track lists but not necessarily from day to day or week to week which is what many of these releases now cover to satisfy a demand for anything Elvis.
Enough of these mono soundboards for now (especially since booklets aren't being included). It's high time for FTD to finish releasing the remaining "classic" albums... and the '72 On Tour material.
Looks like FTD haven't put much thought into this double set, with an unrelated cover shot to start with. I just listened to the "Fly Trouble" boot on You tube from the afternoon show from June 8. It's by far the best of the Jackson concert with some terrific highlights. It's disappointing that FTD have opted for an inferior show as well as inferior bonus songs, where there's too many silly versions of his latter day songs. Not good !
Ciscoking: did Elvis sing Jambalaya from June 9 ? And could you give us some brief and early insights from the September '76 show on disc 1.
Elvis didnt sing Jambalaya on June 9, 1975. It was a PR gag on the boot Cut Em Down To Size.
Do you really think its a good idea of releasing a SB where Elvis hunts a fly on stage...and a How Great Thou Art where he hardly hits a note..?
The idea of June 9, 1975 was a solid show and the rare Help Me Make It Through The Night..this is why I recommended this show to Ernst .
I think the 1976 Jackson show is one of the best from this tour. We have a varied set list and Elvis was very committed. In general we can say that the shows towards the end of this tour with ups and great downs were the best. Elvis was back on track although you cannot say that the shows were good from start to finish. But they were okay and so is this one.
Cisco, does Ernst ever talk about the On Tour shows and why, in so many years, only San Antonio-TX has been released officially?
We only talk about upcoming soundbard releases..when he needs my opinion.
And usually I dont ask more....thats not my business..
