Elvis Potato

November 21, 2015 | Other

The hottest new artificial Elvis thing on the market is this mr. Potato Head tribute to Blue Hawaii. According to Priscilla this is what Elvis always wanted to be: a potato head. The product is aimed at the same people that bought his recent CD.

The Potato Head is not my cup of tea. The album however most certainly is. The best album release since the '30 No.1 Hits'. I play it every day. I hope a follow up album is being considered with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Bring it on.

"The product is aimed at the same people that bought his recent CD." If that is the case there are going to be a million or so of those around. I love the new CD.

50,000,000 potatoes can't be wrong!

Years ago, shopelvis ran a promotion where if you spent X amount you received a free Mr. Potato Head. Mine is the '68 TV Special version. Which I favor over this one. Mine is unopened. Still in the original packaging.

Bottom of the barrel tribute....it's about time EPE gets more selective and classy, it's not only about the money

When it comes to Elvis it has always been about the money. Starting back in '56 when he hit the jackpot with "Heartbreak Hotel."

This is something that is aimed at children and not to be taken too seriously, lighten up it's just a bit of fun! If it brings in a whole new generation of fans, then is that a bad thing?? To say that the product is aimed at the same people that bought his recent CD, is to insult the many users/contributors of your website. Shame on you!

Well noted JerryNodak - Apparently back in 1956 18 licensees, produced about 30 products. My personal amusing favourites' were Elvis Presley Lipsticks, with names such as Hound Dog Orange, Heartbreak Pink, Cruel Red, Tender Pink, Tutti Frutti Red, and Love-ya Fuschia. I expect the Carnival Colonel thought the Elvis bubble would burst fairly quickly so set out to make some dollars while the boy was hot.

This is why Elvis is a joke to many people. If this has the OK from EPE, shame on them.

Silly, I don't think it's worthy of the King! Maybe this is viewed differently in the USA?

Yes it has always been about the money. it was in 56, but in 56 the marketing was aimed towards kids, much like in 64 when Beatles bobble-heads & other items were aimed at kids. You dont see silly Beatles items like that being produced anymore, or any other former teen idols from long ago. What does that tell you about how the estate views Elvis fans? Not much to me. Who the heck is this aimed for? Kids arent going to buy it unless they buy it for their grandmother who still has the intelligence she did in the 50's . Awful IMO,.

Well said, Steve V. Furthermore it was different when he was alive. At least in the later years one could relate things to his / his shows. It is strange to compare this to the fifties materials, for obvious reasons.

Natha Just for clarity purposes I don't like this particular item, but going along with JerryNodak just noting that 'our boy' has been a money making machine from day 1.

They could have colaborated with MGM: From all the millions the fans brought us this year (Elvis is still always in the top three earning dead persons) we give MGM one million so they can remaster TTWII and On Tour material. Practicly as a gift for the fans. They could have said: Well, we bought the Col. Parker Collection when he died and brought trucks of material to Graceland (whoops .. am I still allowed to mention this name? Or will I get sued?). Along that material were 30.000 photos .. alternates for covers etc. Enough material for several breathtaking coffee table books. Nothing of this ever happened. Instead of that ... Potato Head. They trample on Elvis' legacy. All they do is for money. And the fans still salute them wherever they appear. I will never understand that.

I'm behind the music projects. Not fond of the Mr. Potato head nonsense.
