The latest co-production between Flaming Star and FTD is a book by Pal Granlund and David English about Elvis’ second movie, Loving You.
Design
The design is stunning. The balance between text and (mainly black and white) pictures is perfect. The layout is tasteful and easy on the eye.
Content
To be honest I was thinking something like “what another book on Loving You, Inside … by Ger Rijff & Chris Giles is enough!”. Well, this issue proofs that even I can be wrong.
There is so much background information gathered here that makes the picture complete (forgive me the pun). It is brought in a clear, logical way, starting with the 1956 screen test, signing the movie contract, arriving in Hollywood, the recording sessions until the premiere and soundtracks. There is even a complete production overview of the movie. Next to the author’s own work there are several articles from magazines in 1957.
The pictures are many stills from the movie, but also publicity shots and memorabilia. And let’s be honest, even for a straight guy there is nothing wrong with looking at Elvis in 1956/57. The CD is nothing special, although it is always nice to see Nipper again.
Conclusion
This must be the definitive work regarding Loving You. A real piece of art by Pal and David!
