Recently posted from the archives of WKY-TV is new and undiscovered footage of Elvis live in concert in Okalahoma City Auditorium, April 19th 1956. There is three minutes of stunning footage including live concert action - as well as Elvis backstage kissing the girls, greeting his fans and signing autographs. This is a really stunning find. (sadly no audio was recorded, the Elvis part starts at 8'35)
Yes this is incredible footage and the behind scenes are a terrific bonus. How much is out there just sitting in storage idling somewhere. The years 1955 and 1961 intrihgue me the most. The former year has concert film as we all know, but 'Pied Piper' and others wow, and surely someone somewhere shot film of the 2 1961 concerts -I would be in wonderland just to have 30 seconds released.
As others have mentioned this is a monumental find , and who knows what other footage may be lurking "out there"! Hopefully some day when the definitive Elvis documentary is compiled , this footage will be included. Can anyone venture a guess as to what song or songs Elvis is performing?
Nder if this is the legendary missing footage refered to by Bill Randell on that first Dorsey show? He says we first met this young man (Elvis) while making a movie short. That movie short has never surfaced as far as I know. I wonder if this is part of it? (I think it was called the Pied Piper of something....)
This is not the infamous "Pied Piper of Cleveland" footage, which dates from October 1955 and was shot in Cleveland. This footage comes from Oklahoma City in April 1956, having been filmed by WKY-TV. The comments from Bill Randle date from Elvis' "Stage Show" TV appearance in January 1956, three months earlier than this footage.
This footage is another amazing find, having been discovered so long after the event itself. I have read complaints elsewhere about there being no sound and expecting the whole concert to have been filmed. These are unrealistic expectations.
Tony C no-one mention this was the "Pied Piper" footage? so not sure why you are reconfirming what everyone else has said..... Yes great find :) What happed to the movie he filmed called "Up your nose"
A little of topic, but I have resently read that Ernst have said that there are quite a bit more footage from the 57' Hawaii concert, than what we have seen until now, I just thought this me interest some of you.
Perhaps people could read previous postings before they complain about comments in relation to them. The question was asked, I answered it. Why else would I say it wasn't "The Pied Piper of Cleveland" footage? Best to read the postings from the bottom up rather than the top down. Thanks to those that sprang to my defence.
This is such a great finding. And it just makes you wonder that probably 50's findings are more possible than we my think. But the "creme de la creme" it would be "The Pied Pipers" since it would be, probably the greatest mile stone in Rock'n'Roll history: we would be able to the see Bill Haley, Pat Boone, Roy Hamilton, Johnnie Ray, LaVern Baker, and The Young King Elvis The Pelvis, performing in late (October i Think) 1955!!!. I would love the see how different Elvis really was from the rest of them.
