Scholastic UK Ltd announced the release of the 208 page book "Horribly Famous: Elvis and His Blue Suede Shoes" by Michael Cox (Autor) and Philip Reeve (Illustrator). The book, due June 2, 2011, contains is contains stories on why Elvis Presley is "horribly famous". "All know he is famous for being the King of Rock'n'Roll. But not everyone knows that Elvis escaped from tornadoes by hiding in a cave, flew halfway across America for 22 giant sandwiches and had a tooth stuck in his lung. This title offers what you ever wanted to know about the man with the pelvis".

'Horribly' sad that the morons, are out in force criticising again with an ounce of intelligence. 'Horribly Famous' is a series of children's books - based upon the 'Horrible Histories' series. 'Horrible Histories' is the most successful series of non-fiction books ever in the UK and are found in almost every primary/junior school library. Other subjects of 'Horribly Famous' include kings and queens, Oliver Cromwell, Shakespeare ie a focus upon British history but with a few 'left field' subjects including Al Capone, Einstein etc. In no way will it be controversial, in no way will it have any hidden agenda - it will simply state facts in a manner to appeal humorously to children.

Suzi is absolutely right, these books are a fabulous way for children to learn about history and are hugely popular in the UK. They have been around for many years and I used to look forward to reading them when my young son had finished reading them. They entertain and inform 'without the boring bits' books like the 'rotten romans' 'awesome egyptians' and 'vile victorians' have taught more about history to kids than most 'stuffy' history books in a truly light hearted way. It amazes me sometime just how suspicious the Elvis fan community can be, treating nearly everything they see with disdain. I would urge everyone to keep an open mind, get a copy and enjoy laughing along with the stories. These books dont take themselves seriously and perhaps we can all learn from that. TCB always!!!!

Johnnygb, you are absolutely right about the fact that we should not take things too heavily and smile. Yet one has to understand that many books seem to mock more than to make one smile. Elvis has been a focus point of quite some of the former, so I understand the apprehension many do have.

I take the point about the cover, but it is in keeping with the style of all the previous books in the series, they are all cartoons and just a bit of fun. All the illustrations in thee book will be this style and the book is aimed at children. Personally I cant wait for its release and if it encourages a few kids to seek out a bit of Elvis' music then great. The legacy has to be passed on to future generations. TCB always.

I understand the children's style cover, I was more or less speaking about Elvis being a cartoonish figure in a jumpsuit again ( I always think of National Lampoon). Cartoon figure is ok if it was the 50's or 68 comeback or movie star Elvis. By the way, what is going on with this website? New FTDs were announced. Why no news here?
