In a couple of days, Straight Arrow will release a new CD called "YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE" (SA 2011-20-02). It will feature Elvis' famous July 19th, 1975 8:30 pm show from Uniondale, NY.
17 years ago, the Claudia label released this show in slightly incomplete form, using an unknown generation tape copy of the original recording. Straight Arrow managed to obtain the original (mono) tape directly from the person who recorded it. No edits - and in the best possible sound! The title-song in particular sounds stunning: a truly goosebump-inducing performance in the best soundquality possible!
As most of die-hard fans know, Elvis' July 1975 tour was one of his best. No need to go into big details. His evening Uniondale concert was of the highest quality - a rockin' setlist, rare songs, great mood and brilliant vocal work.As you've come to expect from Straight Arrow, this original recording was completely restored in a studio and the sound was enhanced for the best possible listening pleasure.
The CD package is completed with a standard 16-page booklet, including a collection of photos from the Uniondale 8:30 pm show and a critically written but positive review by Nick Cohn. "You'll Never Walk Alone" will be released in early May, 2011. Don't miss your chance to obtain the ultimate release of one of the coolest Elvis shows ever. And as the front cover show, on stage, Elvis was never walking alone!

This is a great show ! I hope that the sound will be improved than older release.
I must buy this for one simple reason. I was there. I had been hoping FTD would release this show. I have waited for years. I still have my private recording of it on tape. Of all the Elvis shows I have attended I always felt this one was the best only because of Elvis at the piano which I felt was a rare treat. I hated that gypsy suit though.
I would love to get this one! Hopefully the sound is improved!
A must-have. Nothing more to add.
Wish we had this show on soundboard...
Certainly a must have Cisco!..you were there steve? lucky you!..can you tell us more about it?, would love to read it,i wanna have this one too.
Jesse, my memory fades a bit but I felt Elvis was more into this show than when I seen him at MSG or at this arena in 1973. Also better than Aloha. Yes he was heavier, but he sang better, rocked harder, was more talkative to the audience, and the solo at the piano was a total surprise. I had tickets to a show at this same area in 1977, but we know what happened
This has been out a while on the Ampex label as Americas Own`. The sound is pretty good on that, excellent audience i would say. Great show and i hope FTD have soundboard tapes.
I take the improved sound quality with a pinch of salt. Every live cd that comes out now boasts improved sound. One review on here, the Spanish Eyes re-issue, said that the sound had more space whatever the heck that means.
I was at this concert with a full head of hair back in the day. I have mixed emotions about buying this.It would be nice to have because I was there but I just don't think I can take hearing Amen with the JD ending again. Of course I can always skip that cu,t so I may go for it.
I attended the afternoon and evening shows, of "Elvis in Concert at the Nassau Coliseum, on July 19th 1975". These shows and the whole 1975 Summer Tour, were some of Elvis Presley's best concerts. He was relaxed and having fun, with the audience, and singing and looking great. He surprised us all, by going to the piano and singing "You'll never walk alone" which I believe is the first time, Elvis went to the piano on stage, and the only time he performed this song, Live ! I was able to sneak in a audio Tape recorder and record the Afternoon show, and I have a decent copy, but its not on par with a "soundboard". I wish RCA would have recorded the Nassau Coliseum shows, because these were amazing shows ! I was right near the stage for both shows, and I wish every fan could have been there. I can still see the shows in my mind, It was the best of times.
Steve,Oldscudder,GEORGE, you all were there and this must bring back precious memories for the three of you. Reading the postings praising our man's performance(s) proves that he still was The King, and we're talking of the year 1975 ! just 2 years before he passed away . That's what we all should remember and be thankful for : the great moments he gave us all during so many years. Always El.
This release is great and if the sound is indeed improved there won't be any hick-ups, coughing and farting on the recording..
Thanks Benny, Yes, Elvis, was still "rockin" and doing great shows in 1975. And he continued to do amazing powerful shows in 1976 and 1977. Yes, we all know, he had some rough periods here and there, in the last 2 years, but God bless him, he continued to get the road, and entertain millions, and I love him for it.
I usually pass audience recordings by, as a rule, but in this case I'm going to make an exception. I've never heard this show, but Elvis biographer Erik Skar says that the matinée show "stands out as one of the best, most exciting and interesting tour shows he ever held," and the evening show "was no less good than the matinée show." A New York fan said, "I've seen Elvis around 125 times since 1969, and have to place these two New York shows amongst the 10 best shows I've ever seen Elvis do." Sounds like a good risk....audience recording not withstanding. Count me in.
Hey steve and Scudder thnx for your reactions regarding attending this concert was certainly great to read, yes he was better then hen he was in Aloha etc,and just for reading your reactions i want to have this cd,thnx guys.
this show is great. i think its possibly the best of the 75 shows. i just hope FTD have it on soundboard. Hats off to you steve v. would loved to have seen elvis live but alas not my time. I have seen jerry lee in london and he was great. long live rock n roll
FTD has NO SB from this July tour..I asked Ernst.
Cisco: No SB's? Ok i'm sure EJ knows better than us, but if you have JAT's "Sessions III & IV" the Cleveland show happens to be listed in the SB archives list. It's the only show from this tour listed in vol.3 and is listed among 7 other July shows.
On page 554 of "Sessions IV" (the page before the soundboard section) theres a brief inventory titled "Box 6 - Cassettes & reel-to-reel" with the Cleveland show listed out of 2 1975 concerts which seems to indicate that the tape has been in BMG/Sony's archives for many years now.
Ernst once told me he wished he had all these SB`s listed in Tunzi`s books...the truth is different ..unfortunately..
Private possession is another thing...but it is very unlikely that these guys part from their treasures....let`s wait and see...
Elvis, looked and sounded great, and was in great spirits, (it seemed to me) during the summer Tour of 1975. He was having fun, and doing a better variety of songs. I wish, the sound enginers/producers, would have, sensed, Elvis was doing better shows and had the Tape machines recording nonstop. Its a shame that the Summer tour of 1975 was never recorded professionally. Thankfully alot of fans, recorded the shows !
Hi Dazman, did I miss something ? You refer to JAT's Sessions Volume IV ? The SB you're talking about is indeed mentioned on page 554,(and also in the list on page 556 "SB-section"), but that's the Sessions III-book. Would appreciate if you could give some info, 'cause as far as I know Volume IV is still not published, or am I wrong ? Asked my Elvis-dealer (shop) and he's not aware either of Sessions IV being published yet. Thanks in advance . Always El.
You haven't missed anything, Benny, the third Sessions book is still the most recent. It's just a question of who to believe, Ernst (who has access to the soundboard tapes in the Sony archive) or Joe Tunzi (who doesn't and whose list is an educated guess). Take your pick.
Regarding the lack of professional recordings from this era, we had been bogged down with live albums since the "Elvis In Person" package. People complained about yet another live set when the 1974 Memphis album emerged. Unfortunately, nobody realised how quickly time was running out.
Thanks for the info Tony ! I'll keep in mind what you wrote : Ernst has access to the SB-tapes, Tunzi hasn't, so I'd better stick to the thought Tunzi's list is not very reliable . Have a nice weekend. Always El.
Sorry Benny for causing you the run around, I actually meant Sessions II & III respectively. Sessions IV has been so long in the pipeline that I went too far ahead of myself!
BTW: I think we should call on EJ to somehow publicise a comprehensive SB inventory so that we know what is actually at FTD's disposal.
It`s not that much ..I have burried a lot of dreams....at least tour wise..
Hi Dazman, nothing to be sorry about ! Good suggestion from your part about a list of what's still in the can according to EJ. Cisco : you probably are right, but if such a list could be published at least we should know to what we can cling to and expect in the (near ???) future. Always El.
Is this the famous show in which he sang ONLY ONCE "Killing me softly" ???? I wonder. I heard it on a bootleg with Nassau Concert but in bad sound quality. Has this been o m m i t t e d in this CD ??? Who knows. Pls. explain to me.Thkx.
There were two shows in Uniondale on that day, this CD contains the evening show. During the afternoon show, already released on the "America's Own" CD, "Killing Me Softly" was performed. Before anybody gets too excited, it was performed by Voice, not Elvis. The above preview of this new "You'll Never Walk Alone" CD states that it contains no edits, a clue as to whether or not anything has been omitted. As for "Killing Me Softly" having bad sound, it is sourced from an audience recording, which most consider fairly reasonable quality considering the nature of the recording.
