This book tells the story from the legendary 'American Studios' in Memphis and will be released in February. The book is not about Elvis, but about the rythm section that worked in Chip Moman's studios that excisted in Memphis from 1963-1972. Elvis recorded some of his best work over there in 1969 (Suspicious Minds, In The Ghetto, ...) besides Elvis, famous stars like the Gentrys, Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, the Box Tops, Joe Tex, Neil Diamond, B. J. Thomas, Dionne Warwick recorded in the historical studio.

One must not forget Dusty Springfield whose album "Dusty In Memphis" was also recorded there, using most of the same musicians Elvis had. A real fine album.

What about a whole collection series of essential albums or a 5 CD box set focussing on the artists who recorded at American Studios? With the liner notes done by Chips Moam. One could add alternate takes and interviews, lots of other stuff. Possible title: "From The American Studio in Memphis. A History in Music."

Good idea sitdown. I agree that the buiding should have been given more respect. I'd have liked a DVD documentary on Elvis at the studios with interviews from musicians and tracks from the sessions. Alas I doubt that will ever happen...

Thank you Circle. Maybe Elvis In Norway folk joining forces with ElvisNews admins could talk to Chips Moam about the idea. Could be a project to talk about during this year's Elvis Week. What fascinating project it could turn out to be. All the milestone albums recorded at American Studios and some special additional material united in a collectors series. They could do it in a manner Bear Family Records are usually doing their job. regards from Switzerland.

Sitdown that would be amazing if it came true! On paper there are endless articles about the value of these sessions as far as elvis' career was concerned but no audio/visual documentation. How many of the original musicians are still around? A warts-and-all programme with music would, i'm sure, be popular. I was explaing the story about elvis' times at american studios (particularly the story behind suspicious minds) to a friend who is not a fan. he became so interested he went out and bought the entire set on Cd!

Oh, that is really encouraging news, though. How can we unfold this idea. I am nowhere near to people inside of the Elvis circle. I mailed ElvisMatters but haven't got an answer yet. If the www proofs to be right, we'd need 4 persons more involved to talk to the very important person who can do something about it. So...ElvisMatters...did you get my mail?
