The last of the recent Camden reissues is the compilation “Burning Love And Hits From His Movies”. Is it a "hot" release?
Design
Like all Camden reissues the design of this CD is very close to the original too. It was a crappy design when originally released and it still is today, nothing more to add.
Content
This CD is a mixed bag of goodies. Elvis’ hit “Burning Love” coupled with movie material. I could be as short as I was on the design part of this release, a crappy release back then and it still is a crappy release today. It was slammed together for the quick buck and did not do Elvis' catalogue justice. The “Burning Love” single reached # 2 on the Billboard singles chart and hit # 1 on the rival Cashbox chart. But who dares to argue with The Colonel when the “$” roll in (the album reached #22)? Not even Elvis did ... On the pro site, the material on this release has been remastered.
Not all material on this release is bad of course, it still is Elvis’ material, something I like :-) But “Guadalajara”, “Santa Lucia”, “I Love Only One Girl” and “We’ll Be Together” are not on my frequently played list. Besides the title track “Tonight Is So Right For Love” comes around more frequently and occasionally “It’s A Matter Of Time” and “No More” drop by.
When I'm in the mood for "Burning Love" I always play the 1999 complilation "Burning Love”; that's the album that should have been released in 1972. Just look at the track listing: Burning Love / Never Been to Spain / You Gave Me a Mountain (1972/02/16) / I'm Leavin' / It's Only Love / Always on My Mind / It's Impossible / It's Over (1972/02/17) / Separate Ways / Fool / Hound Dog (1972/02/14) Little Sister (1972/02/14) / A Big Hunk o' Love (1972/02/16) / Where Do I Go from Here? / For the Good Times (1972/03/27 studio) / It's a Matter of Time / An American Trilogy / The Impossible Dream (1972/02/16). A great mix of big ballads and sweaty rockers.
Conclusion
A nice addition to the collection of the sentimental fan.

This was one of my very first cassettes when I was little. Even then I thought it was a ver ugly cover. I liked almost all the songs back then, because I was just a child and the songs are catchy. I don't know what I have with "Tonight Is So Right For Love", but I've always liked it very much.

The album is what it is. I enjoyed it when I bought it on vinyl back in '72 and I intend to enjoy it again on this cd reissue. I'm sure the sound will better now than it was on the Canadian import I had of this title back in the day.

i hope this aint the last release of the camden series :( id like them to release the christmas albumb titled elvis sings christmas songs, and id like to see double dynamite rleased that was my favorite 8 track i always stole from my mom and dad when i was little lol

As all Camden albums this one refers to the time we were all eagerly awaiting any new single or album. You cannot compare this eager anticipation to the present time. Nowadays we get more than a dozen releases each year. In those days those reshuffled albums gave us the opportunity to hear ELVIS songs if no new songs at least in a different order. Not all of us had taperecorders or things of the sort back then. I for one appreciated them as I always enjoyed listening to his voice. We all have our favorite songs and it is easy to have a lower regard for certain songs as all things are reviewed retrospectively in a different way. However in their own way these songs have merit for those living in that particular time frame. Being one of them I will enjoy this compilation, though I am quite aware of the fact that (again retrospectively) this is definitely not the best they could have produced in those days.

These Camden-cd's must be for the sentimental fan who bought the lp's back in the seventies. However, I think they are crap, with strange song compilations, very short playing time, and no sound improvement. But I understand that back in the seventies there weren't too many compilations like this.

Back in the seventies when these budget albums were released, lp's had an inner sleeve that showed the entire Elvis catalog - every album released since the fifties was available. A couple of years ago the powers that be have 'streamlined' the catalog, deleting several items. Today they are flooding the market with product such as inferior Camden rereleases, while high quality stuff like FTD classic albums is not available from regular outlets, the casual buyer doesn't know this quality material exists. Is this a wise way to treat Elvis's musical legacy?

BMG can always count on shifting a few of these to make it worth their while. They know that there are Elvis fans out there who will buy this for whatever reason. Personally, whereas the CAmden releases were the first lp's to get me hooked on Elvis, they are not something i would re-visit or spend money on now.

When the powers that be in the recording industry stopped releasing product on vinyl full time and switced to cd I vowed that I would one day own a cd copy of every Elvis album in my collection (in so much as it were practically possible). The Camden albums are a part of my collection. So my quest continues. Beyond the quest, I enjoy these albums.

This was one of the first albums I bought and I loved it. Much better than that pretentious alternative which came out in the late 90's. It is a pity Guadalajara was on it though, for some reason there is always a dud. Still, better than Old Shep (Old Shep is normally kept for Love Song albums).

unnecessary? correct... bad taste? so it was by the time it came out... embarrassing? yes to the point I won't dare say that i actually bought it... the thing is these records are about nostalgy they have nothing to do with objectivity or art or anything like that they're just the kind of records that you want to listen to just once more just to feel how it feels to be a little boy whose main man is Elvis... inferior stuff? yeah... so what?

I bought this one in a blue box from Pickwick, that also contained I got lucky and Elvis sings hits from his movies, both as bad as this one. Only burning love and it's a matter of time were new songs. Why didn't RCA put these songs along with always on my mind and seperate ways on a decent album. What were they thinking?
