Elvis Did Make A #1 In The UK

July 13, 2004 | Music
Elvis did make number one this week in the UK, on the 12 inch vinyl singles charts. According to OCC data it sold 5,016 copies - this is despite the fact that it is a 10-inch single and was supposedly limited to 5,000 copies in this format.

Also "That's All Right" is the only chart single not to appear in the UK Top 50 Radio Airplay Chart. The number one tune from Usher enjoyed 2,222 radio plays and 505 TV appearances, Britney in the second position racked up 2,018 spinning and 377 television screenings on the music channels. Elvis had a mere 97 radio plays and no music television support, so whilst the overall sales might appear grim, almost 20,000 fan club members did make the effort and buy the single.

well its great news. Elvis is No.1. again in the charts. this is where he ought to be. This is far better than the crap they play today on radio, To me its only noise from synthesisers and electronic humdrum. its purely noise. U cannot understand what the so called singers and musicians of today sing about. well each to their own. Well when Elvis sang on stage and in studio - he ran the show. he recorded and got results at the end of his recording sessions. he produced the goods so to speakand sold evry song. The kidsof today have no sense on what to buy. So called pop idols come and go- But Elvis comes back evry time. thats great.

It just shows you how narrow minded Radio controllers are. Songs in the lower regions of the charts that sell just a thousand or so copies get airplay whilst Elvis who sells over 20,000 units doesn't warrant a place in the airplay chart? What's that all about? When are the national radio stations going to give us the music we want, rather than the music they tell us we should want? Not everyone who listens to the radio is pre-pubescent (and those that are are in school from 9.00-3.00pm) or white kids from Surrey who wear their baseball caps the wrong way round, trousers 5 sizes to big and think they come from Harlem whilst bigging up on Gangsta rap!!

Thanks to Todd for the info that Elvis DID make No1 this week...and so he should, that thing at No1 which has supposedly held the man off the top is absolute trash! However it is amazing that a song that is 50 years old sold so many copies... just goes to show that THE MAN is still very much loved and admired!
