She Thinks I Still Care

Rating:
4.2 / 5

Words & Music: Dickey Lee

Oh just because I asked a friend about her
Just because I spoke her name somewhere
Just because I rang her number by mistake today
You know she thinks I, I still care

And just because I haunt the same old places
With a memory I will linger everywhere
Just because I’m not the happy guy I used to be
Lord, you know, she thinks I still care

Well, if she's happy thinking I still need her
Yeh, let that silly notion bring her cheer
Oh how could she ever be so foolish
Tell me where did she get, lord such an idea

Yeh, oh lord

Just because I asked a friend about her
And you know, just because I spoke her name somewhere
Just because, lord I saw her and went to pieces
Lord, you know, she thinks I, lord, still care

You know, she thinks I, I still care

Lord, she thinks I still care
Oh no she thinks I still care

The George Jones country classic given the Presley treatment, I love the song even though the writer must have been on valium when he set pen to paper.

One of the better tracks of the session, which says more about the session than about this rendition.

Nice song. The two different versions in style give to me two different feelings. In the "uptempo" version the singer doesn't care at all that his lover still thinks that he cares. 'Cause he knows better. In the "slow" version the singer is much more cynical. 'Cause he really cares and is very hurt by being left by his lover.

One of my favourite songs from the Moody Blue album. I would loved to hear how a live version would have sounded only by this time Elvis didn't still care enough to vary the set list much.

Elvis really beats George Jones on this. It's a great rendition and shows that he could still do it if he felt like it

Wonderful song in which Elvis is (as usual) able to put the sentiment of the lyrics into his voice.

Boring & drawn out. The uptempo version is a lot better but listen to the John Fogerty version for the best version.

At first, the singer pretends not to care anymore, he kind of tries to make himself believe that he is over her. The punchline is "Just because, lord I saw her and went to pieces". Elvis' version is emotional and touching. Way better and way more personal than mostly irrelevant songs like e.g. Stranger In The Crowd or The Next Step Is Love. Here he really put his heart in, an indication of which is also that the master is take 17.

A really good performance. If anyone thinks that Elvis sang badly by the time of his death, listen to this one.

An absolutely beautiful song !!!...Elvis sounds fantastic on that one. Background vocals, guitar and bass are amazing in that one too. I don't care much about the uptempo version though !

would have had the potential for a real show stopper, as sung live...too bad it never happened

One Elvis' best studio performances, IMHO. His voice is convincing and he seems to be singing this one from deep in his soul. I love the guitar work on this one! The backup singers are awesome, especially when Elvis sings, "...I saw her and went to pieces..." They really add to the song.

I Like this song, a lot. And I also like a lot the remix from the 1980 Guitar Man Album.

A dirge. Can't sit through it. Theuptempo version is so much better.

Sadly, this is one recording I usually skip. Just does'nt do anything for me. Still, that's the best about being an Elvis fan, a few you you can discount, but 100's you can replay, over & over & over again.

This is an absolutely wonderful song delivered with real feeling. Awesome - 5 stars

Elvis really sang with a lot of emotion on most of those Jungle Room sessions. It is a little painful, but it is supposed to be. Elvis conveys the emotions of the song perfectly.

This is more like Elvis preaching than singing with all the Lord, Lord going on. I much prefer the uptempo version or the 1981 remix. This one is just not enjoyable to listen to for me.

A solid rendition of the George Jones hit released as the flip-side of "Moody Blue" and later the "Moody Blue" album. I never cared for the sound of Mr. Jones' voice, so Elvis easily wins the head to head comparision in my book, but the song is the weakest of the studio material on the LP. The uptempo version that was released on the 70's box set, is superb and I wish that RCA had included this version on the MB album. Five stars for the uptempo version and 3 1/2 for the MB/single version.

In this case none of the alternative versions are as good as this take ...emotionally !

This is such a spectacular song and all of Elvis' renditions of it are magnificent. Elvis sang this song with a lot of emotion and I'm so glad that he did. That's the way that this song should always be sung.

This and other song's were meant for Priscilla and not for the fams.

Absolute perfection. This is the Elvis i like the most. 5 stars period.

This song is on my top 100 Elvis songs, I especially like the feeling he puts into it compared to the original version by Gorge Jones (which I also like).

Not one of my favourites from these sessions, and as said previously more preaching than singing. The uptempo version was far superior, and is the one I play on the odd occasion.

It's a great song, period. George Jones did it well, John Fogerty, The Flying Burrito Brothers,

A great song, period. George Jones did it well, so did James Taylor, John Fogerty, The Flying Buritto Brothers, Lou Johnson (a soul version), Johnny Paycheck, Solomon Burke, JLL, Slim Whitman, Merle Haggard and even one from a band called Crown Electric Company. But none did it better than the King. Don't care talking about this or that version; all are great. The one on Moody Blue, Walk a mile in my shoes & Guitar Man. Go check them out.

5-stars. I actually like this song in any form, fast, slow or in between. A great tune and Elvis delivers it flawlessly.
