Patriot

January 27, 2002 | Music
This is a second CD which came out after the September 11 disaster to express the feelings of patriotism and dedication to the U.S.A.. Elvis Presley is a typical product of America and the American Dream and therefore a great "icon of America".

Design

The design of this three track release from World Wide Elvis on the Soundies label is - of course - very patriotic. An image from the cover of the 1969 single "If I Can Dream" of Elvis singing that song on the 1968 Comeback Special on the background of the American flag. On the back there's an image of Elvis in his G.I. suit from the cover of the 1959 single "A Big Hunk O' Love".

Content

Like the "America The Beautiful" CD this CD contains three tracks too. Unlike the "America The Beautiful" release these tracks all have a patriotic theme Besides "America The Beautiful" and "If I Can Dream" this CD contains "An American Trilogy" in stead of the gospel "Amazing Grace".

By itself it is a good release for a good cause, although the proceeds of this CD are not going to charity. What we don't understand is that there are three different versions of this release. The CD(single), a promo version and a box-set containing both the single and the promo. We think that's all a bit too much.

Conclusion

With the other "patriotic" release there were two good reasons to buy it, one to support the American Red Cross and victims of the disaster, and two to express your feelings and patriotism. With this CD you can express your patriotism and feel the pride when listening to Elvis praising America, but it's too bad the profits aren't going to charity.
