I'm A Steamroller Baby

By ElvisNews.com/ Kees, February 12, 2009 | Music

Released a little while ago on the new Steam import label is the CD "I'm A Steamroller Baby". Where have I heard this before?

It took a while to find time to play and review this CD, but pretty soon I thought I'd heard this "new" CD before. And I did, on the 2007 release "A Dinner At The Hilton".

Design

This CD comes with an attractive cover. A nice casual shot of Elvis edited with some color filters with a few additional flowers. The picture does miss one thing ... originally it featured Engelbert Humperdink. But personally I don't mind loosing him in the image. Contrary to the previous release of this concert this design - despite the lack of a few liner-notes - this one looks good.

Content

The easy part of this review; cut and paste from the original review of this concert from 2007:

The show opens traditionally and most songs get a standard treatment. “Steamroller Blues” sound O.K., so does “Fever”. Elvis appears to be on speed for "Hound Dog", he simply fast-forwards through the second part of this one while he takes the time for a tender rendition of the "What Now My Love". Only to pick up the pace again with James Burton on "Johnny B Goode"; one of the fastest versions I heard. Elvis sounds really raw, making this a fun version.
He drops the speed a bit for “Suspicious Minds”. After the introductions and a standard “I Can’t Stop Loving You” he goes into a good rendition of "An American Trilogy" which gets a long standing ovation from the audience. The southerners in the show room showed their appreciation.

Strangely enough Elvis closes the show by saying he could have done a better show, but I thought this show was actually entertaining.

The audio quality is good for an audience recording (listening on my PC while writing this review).

Conclusion

This release is the nice looking version of this o.k. show, which comes in a decent audio quality.
