Fly T-R-O-U-B-L-E!

July 11, 2004 | Music
The new release of the Madison label brings us another incomplete show from the June 1975 show. This time it’s the afternoon show of June 8 in Jackson. The evening show was already released by Madison on “A Capital Performance”.

Design

As usual Madison shows they have the most talented designer by far. This includes both BMG and all other bootleg labels. The booklet has informative liner notes and a great bunch of live shots from this tour. Behind the CD is a great action shot of Elvis in the Graceland gardens, unfortunately a bit unclear.

Content

The show gets its title from Elvis’ reactions on a bunch of flies that seems to attack the stage. Elvis is in a very good mood, joking and referring to the flies over and over again, even changing lyrics. The set is quite usual for this tour. Elvis is teasing the audience near the end, making three false starts on Fever and then announces they won’t do the song, but “have to sort it out for tonight’s show” (which he didn’t). Unfortunately there is a bit too much high in the recording, which gets pretty irritating during the second part (especially on Funny How Times it is very noticeable). Also the missing parts are annoying, but at least Madison gives a clear warning in both the booklet and tracklist on the back.

Conclusion

A collector’s only release, not outstanding regarding sound, but Elvis in a very talkative and good mood. In the middle of the poor releases we get nowadays, Madison proofs they still stand out.

I've just got my copy of this superb import release. The rare photo of Elvis bending and kissing a little kid (is that Lisa Marie?) on the back cover sleeve is truly fantastic! Great show and excellent sound.. But sadly, it is quite obvious that this soundboard tape has been speeded up - otherwise it's a Superb CD.

Great show, yes, that's true. But the sound is the WORST of all Madison releases so far. The high distortion makes it impossible to enjoy. what a shame and very bad remastering. All Madison releases suffer from this. Do they have an engineer that is deaf?. My god, where are the days of Baxter and D.A.E.? Madison has to do better next time round!
