Ed Sullivan discusses a few points with Elvis during preparation for his second appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. Although Sullivan had declared that Elvis would never appear on his show, he later backud down and signed him for three performances. Elvis was paid a total of $50,000 for his appearances - which was considerably more than the sum the Colonel had originally asked for when he first approached Sullivan and had been turned down. When the first show was broadcast in early September, actor Charles Laughton acted as host since Sullivan was recovering from a car accident.
