Just after we received the deluxe edition DVD sets of “Aloha From Hawaii” and “68 Comeback Special” we received an import DVD edition of another fan’s favorite, “On Tour”. Does it meet the new standard?
Design
The producers tried to come up with a good looking design and looked for good images of Elvis. They came up with the same image as used for the “That’s The Way it Is SE” DVD from a few years back. Good images, but a bad choice for Elvis' “other” concert movie. Why not use the original cover and be done with it?!?
The disc is a real DVD, unlike the many (factory made) DVD-recordables which you can find on eBay. The menu is clear and gives direct access to all songs.
Content
You all know this movie, showing our man on and off stage, presenting a picture of life on the road in the seventies with the girls, suits, capes and extended entourage.
With the recent re-releases of the “Aloha From Hawaii” and the “68 Comeback Special” deluxe DVD sets it is probably unfair to compare these releases, but for us fans, EPE and BMG reset the standard for and Elvis concert release June 2004. This release, a bootleg, does not meet the new standard.
Seems like a video copy, and not a laserdisc copy (like the “The Lost Performances” bootleg release) which is available as a good source too. The video quality is a standard “good video tape” quality, not bad, the colors are bit pale with the standard DVD quality in mind, and for the sound goes the same, not DVD quality (and unfortunately distortion during one of the highlights “Bridge Over Troubled Water”).
The small screens might have worked in the seventies, but watching them on a widescreen television set you immediately see the need for some re-editing to make this seventies style movie fit into the 21st. century equipment and style.
As a bonus the theatrical trailer is added.
Conclusion
For now this DVD will do as a good replacement for the video, but we keep our fingers crossed we will see an official “deluxe” release real soon. With the amount of material available we will settle for a ten (?) disc DVD box ;-)

We need to set aside our money for this mega EOT release when it does happen. If Elvis On Tour is not released as a 4 to 5 DVD set, they will not have done justice to whats out thier on film. I hope it will be released the way the 68 DVD was all in tact. Lets hope for a release next July!!

To Judy Presley: I'm glad you're made of money. I'm not. A three DVD box is as much as I can afford. And that's
stretching it.

I love the last sentence of your conclusion! BMG/EPE please take note.

That is not a new re-mastered DVD. Soon we will get news on when the 'Elvis On Tour' will be re-worked... Probably will be out around end of 2005.

Well that´s really is DVD-R and EPE and BMG has´t any rights to "On tour" material as they wasn´t to "That´s the way it is" either. Let´s hope that AOl Time Warner sometimes realease "On tour"
